ABOUT STYLE IMITATING ART

Style Imitating Art challenges us to draw style inspiration from pieces of art. My main tip for participating is not to just look at the colors but look at the textures, think about complimentary colors, etc. In other words, you don’t have to be literal your interpretation. It’s all about looking at the items in your closet in new and creative ways — mixing colors and patterns and just having fun.

INSPIRATION ART WORK

Buttons {living outside the stacks}

I took this picture waaaaaay back in 2012 when I first learning about photography. I look at the image and I see all the technical errors, and I cringe but I love the colors. The pinks, the browns, the golds, and the creams. There’s also bits of green and burgundy.

What do you think you’ll wear? I can’t wait to see! There really are so many options.

THE CURATOR

This week’s inspiration piece was curated by me. My blog is all about life away from the library.

THE PARTICIPANTS

Shugunna {Nzuri n Simplicity}

Shugunna Alexander {nzurin simplicity}

Shugunna Alexander 2 {nzurin simplicity}

Shugunna is a first time SIA participant and I’m so happy to have her. I absolutely love her style and am so happy that she reached out to me on Instagram. I feel like I have a new style friend.

Anyway, don’t you love the bright colors in her top? I do! Shugunna definitely pulled out not only the happy colors in the buttons, but the textures as well.

Jodie {Jodie’s Touch of Style}

Jodie {jodies touch of style}

Jodie’s sweater, y’all! It’s just so whimsical and sparkly. I love it. And, gosh, I’m just noticing her bag which looks like a pistachio green. I can see so many of the colors and the sparkle from the buttons in Jodie’s outfit, can’t you?

THE CO-HOSTS

Salazar {14 Shades of Grey}

Salazar {14 shades of gray}

I’ve said this before and I’ll keep on saying it – Salazar has the best brooch collection, hands down. I like the way she pulled the browns, pinks, and creams out of the image. There’s even a bit of the bling from that top button.

Kim {Fierce Fashion Blog}

Kim {fierce fashion blog}

Kim’s outfit is just fun! I’m digging the color play. I can see all of those colors in the picture, which is funny because I didn’t see the purples initially. Isn’t it funny how we can all see the same thing, yet see it so differently? Honestly, that’s part of what makes this challenge so much fun.
