Hi! And welcome to the Style Imitating Art Roundup! Y’all, I’m always so excited when we have someone new join us. I know this challenge may seem a little daunting, but it really isn’t. It’s just another way of drawing sartorial inspiration.

ABOUT STYLE IMITATING ART

Style Imitating Art is hosted by Salazar {14 Shades of Grey}, Kim {Fierce Fashion Blog}, and me. Style Imitating Art challenges us to draw style inspiration from pieces of art. Every other Monday one of us selects an inspiration image and we each post the image on our blogs. The following Monday we share our art inspired outfits. And that Wednesday, the curator shares all of the submissions on her blog.

THE CURATOR

This week’s image was chosen by me.

INSPIRATION ART WORK

Vintage Fabric from Annie Lauries

This week’s inspiration comes from a vintage fabric piece that I bought when The Hubs and I lived in Missouri. I’d originally purchased the fabric to recover a bench that I had in my closet. Well, the fabric piece, while a decent size, is too small to recover the bench. So now it’s stored in a drawer until I find something to do with it. Kim suggested a pillow and I love love love that idea!!

That being said, the fabric is absolutely beautiful and substantial. I was drawn to the bright, saturated colors, and the floral print. It’s kind of bohemian, a bit mid-century, and kind of modern at the same time.

STYLING IDEAS

The main colors in this fabric swatch are burgundy, red, gold, and brown. There are also accents of green and beige. I think this inspiration piece lends itself to embroidered pieces.

SUBMISSIONS

Nancy {Nancy’s Fashion Style}

{nancys fashion style} Nancy Baten

I am so loving everything about Nancy’s outfit. She chose to go with neutrals but there’s still so much boldness, right? And, come on, a graphic tee with animal print? Win! Win! Win!

THE CO-HOSTS

Make sure you stop by and visit my co-hosts at 14 Shades of Grey, and Fierce Fashion Blog. You’ll definitely want to see their interpretations as well. Make sure you come back on Wednesday to see my co-hosts’ outfits.

Salazar {14 Shades of Grey}

{14 shades of grey} Salazar

Salazar “… built my outfit around this silk scarf, which I think mimics your piece of fabric quite well. My jeans are more purple than red, but it’s the closest I can get to the colors of the embroideries. My boots also have some brocade/embroideries on the back.”

I think that scarf is stunning. And it’s definitely reminiscent of the embroidery in the fabric.

Kim {Fierce Fashion Blog}

{fierce fashion blog} Kim

Kim wrote that she “… embraced the neutrals route because of all of the shades of the background fabric–with a touch of burgundy thrown in.”

Kim’s top is so pretty. Y’all know I’m partial to embroidery and lace-y things.
