As the blogger and photographer behind Living Outside the Stacks, I independently select and write about stuff I love and things I think you’ll enjoy too. Living Outside the Stacks has affiliate and advertising partnerships so I get revenue from sharing this content and from your purchase. Thank you for your support.

Welcome to Style Imitating Art. I hope you all had a blessed and happy Resurrection Weekend. Ours was very similar to last year’s: we stayed home and watched online services on Sunday. I took Bleu for a couple of long walks that wore her out. We may have to build up her endurance after spending the winter in a cage due to heart worms. And, to be honest, I need to build up my endurance too. As soon as the weather changed, I got lazy.

ABOUT STYLE IMITATING ART

Style Imitating Art is hosted by Salazar {14 Shades of Grey}, Terri {Meadow Tree Style}, and me. Style Imitating Art challenges us to draw style inspiration from pieces of art. Every other Monday one of us selects an inspiration image and we each post the image on our blogs. The following Monday we share our art inspired outfits. Participants submit their art inspired outfits with the curator by 10 PM Tuesday and, that Wednesday, the curator shares all of the submissions on her blog.

THE CURATOR

This week’s work of art was chosen by Terri because “…I have always been in awe of these works. They can stand on their own as sculptures but make an incredible present when worn and combined with dance movement. Their meaning and reason of origin are also impactful. Creatively, I feel, they offer quite a variety of colors, materials, and styles to work with.”

Because I’m not sure of the copyright, I’ve only posted a portion of the image. You can see the complete image here.

MY OUTFIT

This week’s inspiration piece had soooo many options that I was almost overwhelmed. Then I decided to do what I do best: fall back on neutrals with a pop of color. I know, I know, but Daenel, how is yellow a neutral? Tell me a color that doesn’t go with yellow. I’ll wait. Now, what doesn’t match grey? *crickets chirping* And everything under the sun goes with denim. And the pop comes from my red clogs.

Do you use yellow as a neutral? Or do you see it only as a bright? If you’re looking for outfit inspiration, feel free to follow me on Pinterest.
