ABOUT STYLE IMITATING ART

Style Imitating Art is hosted by Salazar {14 Shades of Gray}, Kim {Fierce Fashion Blog}, and me. Style Imitating Art challenges us to draw style inspiration from pieces of art. Every other Monday one of us selects an inspiration image and we each post the image on our blogs. The following Monday we share our art inspired outfit. My main tip for participating is not to just look at the colors but look at the textures, think about complimentary colors, etc. In other words, you don’t have to be literal in your interpretation. It’s all about looking at the items in your closet in new and creative ways — mixing colors and patterns and just having fun.

THE CURATOR

This week’s image was chosen by me. Living Outside the Stacks is all about my life away from the library.

INSPIRATION ART WORK

Sweet Dreams by John William Godward {wikiart}Sweet Dreams by John William Godward

I absolutely adore this portrait by John William Godward. The colors are soothing and, oh my word, there’s animal print {my favorite neutral ever}. I also like the model’s face. She kinda has this been there, done that expression… That’s so my neutral face. LOL
What will you wear? I can’t wait to see.

MY LOOK

Leopard Print Cardi Floral Dress {living outside the stacks}

Hi, how are things in your neck of the woods? Things are finally settling down here. We moved into our new campus last week and had the ribbon cutting ceremony {which was really nice}. Now I have to get all of the books moved from the old library to the new library and get them shelved. That part is soooo exhausting.

Due to all of the moving, I didn’t get a chance to take any recent pictures, so I had to dig through my archives… I’m happy I had something that works.

I think I’ve mentioned before that I love an animal print. It just adds a little something something to whatever you’re wearing.

The dress is one of my favorites, but I don’t wear it nearly enough. I like it because it’s a swing style dress, which means it can be worn as is, with a cardigan, a denim jacket, or an over-sized chunky sweater. Living in Louisiana has taught me the power of versatility when it comes to clothes.

Do you mix patterns? Here’s my theory on pattern and color mixing: If you see it together in nature, you can see it together on the body. If you need some floral dress inspiration, check out my Pinterest board here.
