Hi, how was your weekend? Ours was relaxing. On Friday, The Hubs and I went on a tour of the Melrose Plantation, you can see the pictures here. The rest of the weekend was spent – I kid you not – sleeping. I’m not sure why, but I’ve been exhausted lately. I don’t know if it’s just the emotional toll of the past weeks finally hitting me or if it’s hormones…

Anyway, how fun is this week’s inspiration piece? Besides the colors and patterns, I like that the ladies look like their just lounging around and enjoying the warm weather. Perhaps they’re even gossiping a bit? Although I do kinda wonder what the person in the background is doing… Maybe tending the garden?

ABOUT STYLE IMITATING ART

Style Imitating Art is hosted by Salazar {14 Shades of Gray}, Kim {Fierce Fashion Blog}, and me. Style Imitating Art challenges us to draw style inspiration from pieces of art. Every other Monday one of us selects an inspiration image and we each post the image on our blogs. The following Monday we share our art inspired outfit. My main tip for participating is not to just look at the colors but look at the textures, think about complimentary colors, etc. In other words, you don’t have to be literal in your interpretation. It’s all about looking at the items in your closet in new and creative ways — mixing colors and patterns and just having fun.

THE CURATOR

This week’s image is hosted by Kim from Fierce Fashion Blog. Kim is a fifty something style blogger with an eye for color and texture.

INSPIRATION ART WORK

The Siesta by Paul Gaugin

Kim chose this piece because she “wanted to capture an attitude of ‘dog days of summer.'”

I think the image captures it perfectly. See how the women are kinda lounging around? And you can see the sun shining down on the grass? So much light and life. I also like the mixed prints in the woman’s outfit. So much opportunity for color and pattern play in this inspiration piece.

What will you wear? I can’t wait to see.

MY LOOK

When I saw the inspiration piece, I knew this top was THE perfect top. The mixed prints in my tunic perfectly imitated the mixed prints in the inspiration piece. I found this top while out shopping with my sister waaaaaay back in May and it has been in my closet since then. I don’t know why I took so long to wear it. It’s light and airy. Super comfortable.

I decided to pair it with my tulle extender for modesty and a little extra fun. Seriously, if you don’t have an extender to pair under your tops, how are you even living? Extenders can change the look and feel of just about any top.

I opted to pair my tunic with my weekender jeans, but I think it’d look cute with a pair of leggings and funky sandals too. Maybe even a pencil skirt? Oooooh, even a topper over a dress… So many options.
