ABOUT STYLE IMITATING ART
Style Imitating Art is hosted by Salazar {14 Shades of Gray}, Kim {Fierce Fashion Blog}, and me. Style Imitating Art challenges us to draw style inspiration from pieces of art. Every other Monday one of us selects an inspiration image and we each post the image on our blogs. The following Monday we share our art inspired outfit. My main tip for participating is not to just look at the colors but look at the textures, think about complimentary colors, etc. In other words, you don’t have to be literal in your interpretation. It’s all about looking at the items in your closet in new and creative ways — mixing colors and patterns and just having fun.
THE CURATOR
This week’s inspiration piece was curated by Salazar from 14 Shades of Grey. Salazar is “…a stagnating packet of crisps {context} trying to change by adding more colors to my wardrobe and my life.”
INSPIRATION ART WORK
Woman Admiring Plum Blossoms at Night by Suzuki Harunobu {Public Domain}
Salazar chose a woodblock print titled “Woman admiring plum blossoms at night” by Japanese artist Suzuki Harunobu. She chose it because she likes “…the print for its elegant imagery and neutral color palette.”
What do you think you’ll wear? I can’t wait to see.
MY LOOK
Hey, how are things? Things here have finally settled down. Last week was all about graduation and the events that come with… So things were pretty hectic. Honestly, I’ve never been so involved in graduation – I was on the planning committee and was responsible for taking and posting the photos on social media. I’m not an event photographer. The whole experience was overwhelming. Buuuuut I did get to work with a professional photographer/videographer, so I learned a lot. Bonus.
I was at Target a few weeks ago when I saw this jumpsuit and knew I had to have it. The colors were perfect for this week’s prompt. No, I don’t buy something new for each prompt. But this jumpsuit was on sale for $15. It was a no brainer. The only thing that really gave me pause is that it’s sleeveless and I’m not a big fan of sleeveless tops. But I figured a denim jacket or a cardi would solve my coverage issue.
I don’t know if y’all know this, but I’m a big fan of corset details on shoes and boots. I think it adds a bit of the unexpected to my outfits.
