ABOUT STYLE IMITATING ART

Style Imitating Art is hosted by Salazar {14 Shades of Grey}, Kim {Fierce Fashion Blog}, and me. Style Imitating Art challenges us to draw style inspiration from pieces of art. Every other Monday one of us selects an inspiration image and we each post the image on our blogs. The following Monday we share our art inspired outfits. And that Wednesday, the curator shares all of the submissions on her blog.

THE CURATOR

This week’s image was chosen by by Salazar.

INSPIRATION ART WORK

Salazar chose this piece because:

I’ve always loved William Morris’s designs, but I find his textiles and wallpapers a bit difficult to translate into an outfit (unless you happen to have an item of clothing in that exact print, like something from the Morris & Co x H&M collection, for example), so I chose this tapestry because it’s on a more manageable scale while still has all the elements of a Morris & Co design – the rich colors, intricate details, and natural themes.

MY OUTFIT

I wasn’t sure what I was going to wear for this week’s challenge… I haven’t really dressed this past week at all because, you know, lazy, Thanksgiving, and COVID. Then I remembered that I had this outfit in my “stash” and decided that it’d work.

The embroidery on my jacket has a tapestry feel to it because of the heft of the thread and the floral pattern. The olive green color of the cargo jacket is interwoven through the tapestry as is the burgundy and orange shades in my dress. And, of course, the brown booties tie everything together.

Earrings – Nickel and Suede | Cargo Jacket – Similar | Floral Dress – Similar | Ankle Booties – Similar

Do you wear cargo jackets? This is the first time I’ve worn mine and I’m still trying to get the feel for it. I think because it’s relatively unstructured I need a more structured dress underneath it. To help myself, I’ve put together a Pinterest board for my ideas.
