Subtle Mixing: Polka {Puppy} Dots

Black and White Polka Dot Sweater and Black Skirt {Living Outside the Stacks}

I see that pose in magazines and thought I’d give it a whirl, um, it feels as weird as it looks…

Seriously, polka dots and Scottie pups, what’s not to love?

I totally look like a librarian…

Y’all know I love myself some pattern mixing. I think it’s a fun way to mix up my clothes and add a little personality to my outfits. Usually when I mix my patterns I go for something bold and flashy but every now and then I like to take a walk on the subtle side, like with this outfit. By keeping everything in shades of black, the polka dots and the little Scottie pups take center stage without being too overwhelming.

Are you a pattern mixer? Do you prefer bold or subtle?

  • You nailed this look. It is sophisticated, fun and cute all at the same time. Love this. Thank you for joining the #reasonstodress linkup and hope to have you back tomorrow!

    And…..that magazine look actually looks perfect. I should start copying more poses from real models, great idea!

    • Thank you! I was scanning magazines and kept seeing that pose and was like Hmmm, why not? LOL I almost fell over the first few times (I’m so clumsy!).

  • Ooh, I love this look on you. The polka dots remind me of Gwen Stefani, and I LOVE her style. You always have great poses for your fashion posts. I think I need to start researching poses in magazines, because I always feel like a tool taking fashion posts of myself.

    • I know exactly what you mean. And I’m totally aware of my neighbors. Even if they aren’t paying me any attention, I know they’re there and it’s distracting.

      I love Gwen too. She’s so cool…

  • I love the ensemble the dog print is so cute x

  • Super cute! I adore a good print clash. You look about 21, by the way!

    • Ha! I’ll take that — shaving 21 years off.

  • Glenda Harrison

    I thought the pose was fun and goes perfectly with your fun and quirky ensemble. Pattern mixing is scary to me and I leave it up to others. I only try it on a minimal basis.

    • Thank you, Glenda. I’m still trying to figure out how to move my body, hide the remote, and still look “normal” (relatively speaking). But I am having much more fun than I was when I was setting the timer and running….

      I’m slowly but surely trying new styles: subtle is a new one for me. 🙂
