Subtle Mixing: Polka {Puppy} Dots

Black and White Polka Dot Sweater and Black Skirt {Living Outside the Stacks}

I see that pose in magazines and thought I’d give it a whirl, um, it feels as weird as it looks…

Seriously, polka dots and Scottie pups, what’s not to love?

I totally look like a librarian…

Y’all know I love myself some pattern mixing. I think it’s a fun way to mix up my clothes and add a little personality to my outfits. Usually when I mix my patterns I go for something bold and flashy but every now and then I like to take a walk on the subtle side, like with this outfit. By keeping everything in shades of black, the polka dots and the little Scottie pups take center stage without being too overwhelming.

Are you a pattern mixer? Do you prefer bold or subtle?

What I Wore: Bold Legs

 Citron Sweater Sequin Tank Denim Shirt Khaki Skirt and Burgundy Tights {Living Outside the Stacks}

Confession time: I big puffy heart tights. I view them as an accessory and not just something to keep my legs warm. I wear my legs warm. I wear patterns, bold colors, subtle shades, neutral blacks, deep rich chocolates… I also like that they make a nice background for my morning coffee pictures.

As you can see, I’m still trying desperately to get that chambray shirt to work for me but I really don’t think it’s happening. At what point do you give up on trying to fit something into your wardrobe? I think if it were a darker wash I’d like it better. I don’t know… I guess that just proves that I never outgrew playing dress up.

What I Wore: Transitioning from Summer to Fall

Black Cardigan and Horse Print Dress {Living Outside the Stacks}

Hello, My Lovelies! Hope you’re having a good week so far. We’ve been having a crazy amount of rain and wind. In fact, we spent part of Monday hunkered down in the basement thanks to the tornado sirens. I know I said I wanted sweater weather but I don’t recall asking for storm shelter weather. It’s too soon for all of this…

Thankfully, I was able to stockpile a few pictures before the days started getting shorter {and windier and cooler}.

I’ve worn this dress several times before. You can see it here and here. One of my favorite ways is with the suede wine colored shooties, black tights, and black cardigan. I think the black tights and shooties keep the dress modest {it’s a little on the shorter side}, while the cardi wards off the chill.

My pup, Squeekerz, joined me for a picture. Usually he runs when he sees the camera, but lately he’s been, ummmm, posing for me. Check out his best poses here and here.

How do you transition your clothes from Summer to Fall?
