Today was supposed to be the last installment in my How to Wear a Denim Maxi Skirt series but… I’ve been working with sick family members for a few days and now I’m sick. Some weird stomach thing that doesn’t have the decency to know when it’s no longer welcome. So I had to go through my “stash o’ pics” and see what I had floating around…

I’ve worn a dress over jeans looks before, you can check them out here. In fact, it’s one of my favorite looks. What I don’t do very often is show my arms. Or define my waist with a belt, for that matter. I did both with this cute little dress {which set me back a whopping $2.50 from the clearance rack at JC Penney} and I absolutely love the look. My sandals, which you can see here, are incredibly bright, as is the dress, so grounding them with a black belt just seemed to fit.

My daughter asked me about the pink and green color combination, it’s not something I’d usually wear. But I was totally inspired by the top in this post {women over twenty should have fun with their clothing} and the wall in this post {that green just spoke to me} by Glenda at So What to Twenty! Honestly, Glenda is just an inspiration all the way around… I love how she weaves stories in with her style posts.

How to Wear a Denim Maxi Skirt: To Work

Last week, I showed you how to wear a denim maxi skirt boho style. It’s one of my favorite ways to wear my denim maxi, but it can also be dressed up for work. Button down shirts are a wardrobe staple. If you don’t have one, go out and buy one now. They can be paired with anything from skirts to shorts and slacks to jeans.

A simple metallic belt and a couple of bracelets are my only accessories. Minimalism is key in the workplace. Especially when you work in a place like a library {which I do}, you don’t want a lot of jingling. And a cute pair of flats to finish things off.

Next week, I’ll conclude with How to Wear a Denim Maxi Skirt for Play!

Do you prefer heels or flats?

How to Wear a Denim Maxi Skirt: Boho Style

I absolutely positively love skirts. Especially maxi skirts. But denim maxi skirts have totally stolen my heart. They’re quite possibly one of the most versatile pieces of clothing, you can dress them up or down. They can be worn to church, to work, or to simply hang out with family and friends.

When I first purchased this skirt, I tried looking up different ways to wear it but all I kept seeing were black maxis, white tees, and denim shirts. Where oh where were the denim maxi skirts? I can’t possibly be the only one who likes them. Can I? I mean, if I am, it wouldn’t be the first time I was the only one who rocked a special look. “Boy” suspenders, anyone?

So I decided that I’d do my own little series because I know there are other ladies out there who love a denim maxi skirt. Notice how I keep saying that? I really don’t want to be the only one…

Denim maxi skirts are perfect for creating a boho chic look. Like jeans, denim maxis have a relaxed laid back feel to them. And when you pair them with a flowy  blouse, a ton of chunky jewelry, and 70′s inspired wedges like I did, the look is total flower child meets suburban mom. Quite a mix, no?

Next week I’ll show you how to take a denim maxi skirt to the office. Or, in my case, to the library.

Do you wear denim maxis? What would you add {or subtract} to make this look more boho?
