I’m sitting here watching Alley McBeal and remembering how much I loooooved this show. I mean serious die hard fan. I adored the quirky characters, the soundtrack, and, yes, the fashions. Do you remember how upset everyone was over the length of Ally’s skirts? It was on par with the outcry against Murphy Brown being a single mom on a prime time television show.

Anyway, I’ve been having a lot of discussions with friends and family about what is or isn’t considered business casual. For me, business casual means a top with a skirt or a pair slacks or a dress with a cardigan. I like a much more relaxed style of dress so wearing a jacket or blazer is right up there with formal wear. So, what do you think? How do you define business casual?

Wow, was that a leap or what? LOL

Jaclyn Smith Oxford Dress Pumps – same

For reference, I’m 5’5″ and I wear an XL top and size 12 bottom. This top is an XL and the pants are a size 12.

  • Your business casual would be business fancy/means business/formal – whatever the right term is – for me! I know we are both educators (I use the term loosely about myself!), but in elementary school, teachers wear a whole lotta polos and jeans. I try to up my game a notch…jeans, blouse, cardi. Or when I am really dressing to impress, I pull out the colored denim and a statement necklace. Ha!
You look very put-together. Love the subtle pattern mixing and mix of textures. That Worthington vest (top) is gorgeous. Headed over to get one but wondered how they run…I love how you paired it with a blouse so want to make sure mine is roomy enough to do that. So pretty!! Yay, JCP. Yay YOU!

    • Trust me, Lady, you’re an educator.

The faculty handbook for my place of work says that we’re business casual, so I tend to stick to pants and/or skirt and cardigan with a funky twist. I’m so not a suit or blazer kinda person, but I do have a couple of faux leather and corduroy pieces that I want to work into the rotation. Let me tell you, that Worthington top is one of my best purchases. It really is flexible as top and a vest. And they have several colors at the store along with two different necklines {“V” and round neck}. And the price is worth it. I think they’re still on sale for $9.

  • ahhhsoneo

the socks!!! love it. I too have been watching Ally McBeal – its amazing how it feels so relevant to todays world. thanks for sharing, found you on visible mondays linkup.

    • Thank you for visiting. Isn’t it funny and sad how the topics are still relevant? Those socks were one of those “they’re just too fun to leave behind” purchases. And I like knowing I have something fun on under my serious clothes.

  • Wonderful look with so much personality! Love those socks, and that darling pup in the basket too. Thanks for linking up, xo

    • Thank you, Patti. That’s Squeekerz, he’s so silly and unimpressed with my modeling skills.

  • Lady, I Love Everything about this look! I would wear this any day of the week. I think I have the same idea about business casual as you. I can remember being a Huge fan of Alley McBeal and looking forward to it each week. I need to check it out again. Thanks for linking up with Fabulous Friday!

Jennie – A Pocketful of Polka Dots

    • Thank you, Jennie. This was one of those outfits that worked better in person than it did in my head. The color and pattern play was just fun for me. And the addition of the socks just made me happy.
