When I first started this blog in July of last year, it was supposed to be a way for me to document my life away from the library. My family and I were about to embark on new adventures and I wanted a way to sorta, you know, keep my “old” friends up~to~date on what we were doing and what I was discovering about myself while “living outside the stacks.”
Well, this is real life and sometimes things don’t go as planned. The life that we thought we were going to have in Georgia never materialized and we ended up staying here in Pennsylvania. My kids were thrilled but I wasn’t. My job was gone and I really wasn’t sure when or if I’d be able to get a job working in a library again.
After being unemployed or only working part~time, I’m back in the library as a full~time librarian at Keystone College and I couldn’t be happier. The atmosphere here is incredibly relaxed, the staff and students are warm (even when I screw up, the laugh along with me and wait patiently for me to get it right). There may even be teaching opportunities for me in the future (yay!).
Today the library director gave me the “all clear” to start creating a presence for the Miller Library on a couple of the more popular social media networks such as Twitter (@KeystoneLibrary) and Facebook. And this has me thinking about the direction I’d like for this blog and my other blog, Curious Child’s Library Wanderings, to take. I’ve decided to sorta mix business with pleasure on this blog rather than trying to maintain two separate blogs. I’m not going to delete my other blog (I’m sentimentally attached to it, that was my first “blog baby”) but I am going to write about librarianship as well as motherhood on this blog.
My hope is that those of you who started reading my blog when it was a “mom blog” will continue to do so and that I will pass on useful information to you and your family. And that those of you who are joining me from “the stacks” will appreciate the domestic side.
