A Visit to the Art Gallery and Museum {Getting to Know Missouri}
Yesterday, Miss 18 called me up and asked if I wanted to hang out. Immediately my spidey senses started tingling. Parents, you know how it is when your teenage kid calls you up out of the blue and asks if you want to hang out, your first thought is how much is it gonna cost me? So I asked all the important questions and deduced that she needed a ride to the Art Gallery to complete an assignment for her class. I keep trying to tell her, this is more than just a pretty face… After getting lost, we arrived at the gallery and were immediately rewarded with the scent…

Word Filled Wednesday: Be Careful What You Loose
Have you ever angrily whispered, “Drop dead” to someone you love? Or typed a quick “Consider it done” when a friend has appealed to you for prayer over a situation in their life? Or said “God bless you” to someone who’s just sneezed? These are all examples of seemingly innocent utterances that pack a lot of punch. Proverbs 18:21 {NIV} says: The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit. This means that we must guard our tongues and be careful of the words that we speak. When we’re talking over our lives and the lives of those around us, we…

What I Wore Wednesday #28
Wow, it’s been a long time since I’ve participated in What I Wore Wednesday. Don’t worry, I haven’t been walking around nekkid or anything, but I have been in a bit of a fashion funk. Yeah, I was still putting together my outfits but it was just taking so much effort. And everything was starting to look the same, then I stumbled across Fab Finds Under $50 and my inspiration was renewed. Each month, Kimberly provides a calendar with daily fashion challenges to try. Fun, no? Now I can’t guarantee that I’ll participate every day but I know that I will try to hit every day that I possibly can. What…

Photography: Changing My Perspective
I’m always on the lookout for new photography tips because, well, I’m trying desperately to teach myself how to use my camera. I’m not trying to become a pro or anything, I just wanna capture the best, most interesting shots that I can. So when I read Julie Rivera’s post on I Heart Faces about lowering your camera angle to change your perspective, I thought, I can do that. Generally, when I take pictures, I stand with my legs spread and my elbows pressed into my sidec for stability which means that I’m almost always looking down on my subjects instead of meeting them at their level (children and pets)…

It’s Beginning to Look A Lot Like…
That man threw away my Christmas decorations. Again! When the kids were little, I started collecting Christmas ornaments that I thought best represented each child ~ penguins, airplanes, pinks and purples… I’d mark the bottom of the ornament with the date and the initials of the appropriate kid, you know all the sentimental stuff that mothers do. Anyway, with 4 kids in the house, you can imagine, I had quite the collection. That is, I had quite the collection until a few years ago when the hubs accidentally tossed my container of ornaments while cleaning out the garage. In his defense, I didn’t have the box properly marked because, well,…

Donkeys and Camels and Sheep, Oh My
Last night, the hubs came rushing into the house, yelling at me to grab my camera and get in the car. Looking down at my slippered feet and my pajama clad legs, I thought, hey, why not? It was dark and I trusted the hubs enough to know that I would not be encountering people. I was wrong. The hubs drove over to a local church where they were setting up a live nativity, parked the car and said “Go take some pictures ~ there are camels over there.” Y’all, the looks I got were so worth the pictures… This camel was so incredibly photogenic. Every time he saw the…
