Blogging Through The Gospels: Matthew 7-8

SOAP RingAlthough this is not an excuse for neglecting God’s word, today I’m playing catch up because I spent the weekend in bed with a box of tissues and the remote.  My furry little buddy, Squeekerz, was also by my side.

Now to the SOAP for Saturday and Sunday…

Matthew 7:12

In everything, therefore, treat people the same way you want them to treat you, for this is the Law and the Prophets.

Matthew 8:34

And behold the whole city came out to meet Jesus; and when they saw Him, they implored Him to leave their region.

Not only were these two men being tormented by the devil, but they were so violent that other people could not pass by them to carry on their business.  And, seemingly, people had grown used to chaining these two men up and basically ignoring them unless they broke their chains and started harassing the community.

Jesus, in His infinite wisdom, delivered not just the men but the entire community from demonic oppression by sending the demons into the swine.  And instead of being grateful, the community leaders were angry and begged Him to leave their region.

Sometimes we get so caught up in how someone else’s deliverance may hurt us that we miss the overall blessing.  God does not bless one person to the detriment of another, there is no one blessing for one curse rule with God.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for all of your blessings, those that are seen and those that are unseen.  Help me to rejoice in the blessings/miracles/deliverance of others without wondering “Where’s mine?”  Create in me a heart full of love and joy for the people around me.  Help me to rejoice with them as I would rejoice for myself.  Amen.

I’m joining with hundreds of other bloggers in studying God’s word through a program called Blogging Through The Gospels.  If you would like to participate, all you have to do is grab your Bible, read the selected chapter and then write a post on your blog.  Blogging Through the Gospels is hosted by Amy at Mom’s Toolbox.  To link up your post or read her SOAP, go here.
