Coffee Talk: Baby News, Movie News, and Treat Yo’self!

Coffee Talk {living outside the stacks}

I’d like to welcome you to Coffee Talk. If you’re new here, this is where I share some of the great and not~so~great stuff that I find on the web. Topics range from news stories that leave me scratchin’ my head to DIYs that I think are absolutely clever. And, who knows, there may even be a recipe thrown in here or there just for fun.

The Baby {living outside the stacks}

So, we have a grandbaby! You guys, she is the most beautiful thing and my daughter is the most amazing person. She and her husband allowed me to stay in the delivery room and photograph the birth. Not gonna lie, at one point, I had to stop because I was crying so hard and my glasses started fogging up and I couldn’t see and it was just so incredible.

The Baby {living outside the stacks}

Anyway, our sweet baby weighed in at 9 lbs 5 oz and 19 inches long. Yep, she was a big baby. And I couldn’t possibly be more in love than I am right now. My grandbabies, my babies, The Hubs, and even Squeekerz. I didn’t know it was possible to love this much.

When I was in college at Misericordia University, one of my favorite classes was an English lit class taught by Dr. Turner. She introduced me to Fight Club {yes, the movie}, the Nicholas brothers, and Nella Larsen. Nella Larsen is one of my favorite Harlem Renaissance writers. I’ve read and re-read her novel, Passing, a hundred times. Maybe more. Now it’s gonna be a movie. I’m doing a happy dance. I’m gonna be the first one in line to see it. Seriously, read the novel {it’s short} then go see the movie so we can discuss. Do me that small favor. Thank you. If you really wanna talk shop, you can download Nella Larsen’s entire collection from Kindle for $1.20.

To all of my friends who’re sending their people off to school in the coming weeks, I’m sending up prayers for them that their school year is safe, healthy, and happy. I pray they grow and develop into the young men and women that they’re meant to be.

I had my nails done yesterday. You guys have been holding out on me. I haven’t had my nails professionally done since my kids were elementary school. The youngest is 21. The manicurist was surprised when I:

  1. chose black nail polish {I almost always wear dark colors}
  2. didn’t get fake nails {I actually had no clue what she was talking about until she showed me, then we kinda laughed at my ignorance}
  3. couldn’t figure out how to use the ultraviolet light nail dryer thingy {more laughter}

The tech gave me a full hand and arm massage and then she massaged my neck, shoulders, and back while the manicurist did my nails. It felt so incredibly decadent and relaxing and I wanted to stay there forever. Needless to say, this will become a monthly thing.

How do you treat yourself?
