Coffee Talk: Body Shaming, Momma Shaming, and Cake

Coffee Talk {living outside the stacks}

I’d like to welcome you to Coffee Talk. If you’re new here, this is where I share some of the great and not~so~great stuff that I find on the web. Topics range from news stories that leave me scratchin’ my head to DIYs that I think are absolutely clever. And, who knows, there may even be a recipe thrown in here or there just for fun.

So grab a cup of coffee {or tea or whatever floats your boat} and let’s talk…

  1. Imagine going to the gym to workout and someone violates your privacy by taking your picture and posting it on social media. That’s exactly what happened to one woman, courtesy of Playboy model Dani Mathers {you can read all about it here}. According to her “apology”, Dani intended for the message to be a private message between a friend and herself but was inadvertently shared publicly on Snapchat. insert eye roll here That is not an apology. That is a grown woman who got caught acting like a high school mean girl trying to save face and, fortunately, no one is falling for it. The gym where the snap was taken has filed a police report against Mathers for violating the woman’s privacy. good for them My hope is that this doesn’t discourage other folks from doing what they need to do to get fit/healthy. Side note, I didn’t see the picture, nor do I need to, the woman in question was minding her own business and did not consent to having her photo posted. That’s all I need to know.
  2. Victoria Beckham posted a photo of herself kissing her daughter on the lips and sparked all kinds of outrage. Really, folks? I personally didn’t kiss my kids on the lips because, well, kids are always wet and sticky for no reason. Seriously, what do they get into? But to sexualize a moment between a mother and her child says there’s something wrong with the individuals who’re viewing the photo and not the persons who are in the photo.
  3. Are you a fan of box cakes? I’m not, but The Hubs is, so I’ve been experimenting with different ingredients to customize the cakes. You can see pictures of them here and here. Would you like for me to post the recipes here? And, yes, I do realize that I just posted about my fitness journey a few days ago. I refuse to cut all good things from my life: it’s about balance and portion control.

Now it’s your turn, what has you scratching your head?

Sipping my coffee while you talk,

Daenel T {Living Outside the Stacks}
