Coffee Talk {Living Outside the Stacks}

Hi, and welcome to Coffee Talk. In case you’re new here, this is where I share some of the great and not~so~great stuff that I find on the web. Topics range from news stories that leave me scratchin’ my head to DIYs that I think are absolutely clever. And, who knows, there may even be a recipe thrown in here or there just for fun.

So grab a cup of coffee {or tea or whatever floats your boat} and let’s talk…

1. Justin Bieber. smh There is so much wrong with this guy right now that I don’t even know where to begin… Actually, yeah, I do. Let’s stop referring to him as a “kid who’s flexing his muscles”. I’m looking at every one of you celeb defenders out there. He is not a kid, he’s a grown man. A grown man, who’s making some very stupid {yes, stupid} decisions. If he were an average American Canadian guy, he’d be sitting behind bars right now. The justice system, handlers, and press need to stop slapping these young celebs on the wrists and poo pooing their behavior and make them suffer some real consequences for their actions. Seriously, have we learned nothing from the untimely deaths of other celebs who went unpunished?

2. Just look at Philip Seymour Hoffman. He was one of the biggest character actors around and he died with a needle sticking out of his arm. Yes, I know addiction is real and it’s not just something you “get over”, but what I am saying is that’s where Mr. Bieber is headed if someone doesn’t intervene soon.

3. And not that either of these two folks should qualify as celebrities, but DMX is supposed to be fighting George Zimmerman in an upcoming online pay~per~view match. I don’t know who’s the most desperate to stay relevant here: DMX who keeps having to fight drug charges or Zimmerman who keeps having to fight gun charges. Either way, I’m hissing at this whole thing…

4. So Martin Luther King, Jr.’s children are suing each other* over their father’s Nobel Peace Prize and family bible. This tears me up inside… Bernice King is being sued by her brothers, Martin Luther King III and Dexter, because she won’t turn over the items to them because she believes they’re going to sell them and they’re complaining that they’re unsafe in her hands. Seriously, guys, you can’t work this out amongst yourselves?

*This is not the first time the King Kids have taken each other to court over their father’s legacy, it seems like every few years they tend to gang up on one another, just trifling and sad.

What had you scratchin’ your head this week?
