In two weeks I will be rocking my red pumps for a very special cause ~ The Red Pump Project. The Red Pump Project is an advocacy organization that seeks to raise awareness about women and girls who have been affected by HIV/AIDs. In honor of National Women and Girls HIV/AIDs Awareness Day, they are asking bloggers to “Rock the Red Pump” on their sidebar and then write a post for HIV/AIDs awareness on 10 March.
I’ll Be Rocking the Red Pumps, Will You?
As a woman of color, I was surprised and saddened to find out that AIDs is now the leading cause of death for Black women ages 25 to 34. Most of these women contracted the virus through intravenous drug use or heterosexual contact with someone who was infected. That is sad and scary. For more information, check out the statistics from the Centers for Disease Control, it’s eye opening!
There are many steps that you can take to keep yourself and your partners safe:
~ Know your status
~ Practice safe sex
~ Stop engaging in risky behaviors
~ Talk about HIV prevention with friends and family
~ Rock The Red Pump on your blog to show support for those who are living with HIV/AIDs
