As the blogger and photographer behind Living Outside the Stacks, I independently select and write about stuff I love and things I think you’ll enjoy too. Living Outside the Stacks has affiliate and advertising partnerships so I get revenue from sharing this content and from your purchase. Thank you for your support.

Thank you for coming back to see all of the participants. There are so many exciting interpretations for this week’s inspiration piece!

ABOUT STYLE IMITATING ART

Welcome to Style Imitating Art. Style Imitating Art is hosted by Salazar {14 Shades of Grey}, Terri {Meadow Tree Style}, and me. Style Imitating Art challenges us to draw style inspiration from pieces of art. Every other Monday one of us selects an inspiration image and we each post the image on our blogs. The following Monday we share our art inspired outfits. Participants submit their art inspired outfits with the curator by 10 PM Tuesday and, that Wednesday, the curator shares all of the submissions on her blog.

THE CURATOR

This week’s work of art was chosen by me.

INSPIRATION ART WORK

Serving Fish by Victo Ngai

I chose this image because – little known Daenel fact – I looooove pearls. And, while we’re not yet experiencing fall weather, I thought the colors kind of give a fall-ish vibe.

SUBMISSIONS

Jodie {jodie’s touch of style}

Look at those necklaces. Love love all the layers and jingles and shiny things. This submission from Jodie offers the perfect tip on focusing on a single piece of an image rather than trying to copy the entire artwork.

Kezzie {kezzie ag}

Kezzie’s flat lay is perfect. The pearls, the neutrals, the pattern, everything about this reflects the inspiration piece.

Reni {reni’s odds and sods}

I don’t know about you, but when I first saw the inspiration piece, I thought FLAPPER! And that’s what I think when I see Reni’s outfit. It just has a twenties vibe that makes me want to do the Charleston.

Shelbee {shelbee on the edge}

Seriously, Shelbee. What can I say about this outfit that we aren’t all thinking? It’s just stunning. Beyond stunning. I love the layers, the textures, the color. Everything.

MY COHOSTS

Salazar {14 shades of grey}

Salazar’s outfit Did you see the little nod to the pearls on Salazar’s shoe?

Terri {meadowtree style}

Terri’s outfit is just beautiful. I love the flow and the drape and the colors.

MY OUTFITS

And for a bit of inspiration, I decided to showcase a couple of outfits that meet the theme.

SHOP MY LOOK

Necklace – Similar, Similar | Tee Shirt – Similar | Jeans – Similar

My necklace is actually two vintage pieces that I found at an antique store. The string holding the clasps were weak, so I was able to get them at a discount. To hold them together, I bought 3 flower brooches and clasped them. I’ve also used vintage cameos and a feather pin to hold it.
