I was finally able to watch Passing. And, oh my word, the cinematography is beautiful. I wasn’t sure how the movie would come across in black and white, but I think it was perfect. I cannot wait for the ‘But Have You Read the Book‘ discussion on Tuesday. If you haven’t read Nella Larsen’s Passing yet, please do so. It’s one of my favorite books from the Harlem Renaissance.

Welcome to Style Imitating Art. Style Imitating Art is hosted by Salazar {14 Shades of Grey}, Terri {Meadow Tree Style}, and me. Style Imitating Art challenges us to draw style inspiration from pieces of art. Every other Monday one of us selects an inspiration image and we each post the image on our blogs. INSPIRATION ART WORK
Salazar chose this Solar System Quilt by Ellen Harding Baker because her “…. first SIA of the year is celestial-themed (the Nebra sky disc), I thought I’d end the year with another celestial-themed piece.”
For those who are keeping track, this is the last Style Imitating Art that Salazar will host for 2021. I’ll host my last one the week of 22-29 November and Terri will host her last the week of 6-13 December. After that, we’ll take a break and come back in January for another year of art inspired style.
MY OUTFIT
This week’s outfit came together totally by chance and I ain’t mad about it. Sometimes when I have on an outfit that I like, I’ll take pictures to store away in case I need something for a post. And, while standing in my closet, looking for something to wear for this challenge, I remembered these pictures and was like Yesssss! The colors, the ruffles, the tulle, everything about it is perfect for this week’s inspiration piece.
This is a gratuitous hair shot because *oh my gosh* I can’t get over how much my hair has grown in the last year. It’s so wild and curly and fluffy and I just love it! Now I think it’s time for a color change…
As much as I love this outfit {it’s one that will be on repeat}, I really need to remember to throw on a necklace or two. I always forget. But wearing something in the center of my body will both break up all the horizontalness {my chest and the hip ruffles are a lot} and add more interest to my look.
WHERE I WORE IT
I wore this outfit to work last week. I had a series of meetings that required me to take a lot of photos. Whenever I have photo sessions at work, I like to wear dark colors, quiet shoes, and stretchy material so that I can move around inconspicuously. I also like to be able to carry my camera bag cross-body style without having to fuss with a lot of clothing. I don’t often know when I’ll have to shoot, but when I do, I try to dress practically but with a little funk.
LAST THOUGHTS
Blazers instantly boss up any outfit. So, if you’re like me and not ready to fully commit to a suit, just add a blazer to your favorite outfit and call it a day. If you need inspiration, check out my Pinterest board.
