Yesterday was the New Staff Orientation at the University. It was basically an opportunity for all of the new staff to get together and learn about the history and culture of the University. I always enjoy these sessions, it makes me feel like I’m part of something big and important. Not that I don’t feel that way beforehand, but after listening to the history of the University and seeing where we are and where we headed, I always get this sense of pride… Anyway, one of the things that stuck with me was the reaction of some of the women when the President of the University asked each of us to share something unique about ourselves.
Whenever I’ve been apart of group that’s done this exercise, the men and women generally have the same reaction: the men share hobbies and the women will either share something about their kids or say there’s nothing unique about them.
It kinda made me a little sad that some of the women couldn’t think of one unique/interesting to thing to share about themselves. If I could tell women anything, it would be this: YOU ARE UNIQUE BECAUSE YOU’RE YOU. No one else has lived your life, dreamed your dreams, cried your tears.
I have a twin sister but I’m still a unique individual. My experiences are different from those of my sister. I express my feelings differently. She and I shared a womb but we are as different as night and day, with our own gifts and our own stories to tell.
What I Wore Sunday
I wore this outfit to church on Sunday. I was inspired by this outfit on Pinterest. I bought the dress from QVC about 2 or 3 years ago and I think I’ve only worn it once or twice. I was never really sure how to wear it. I just thought it was cute, ya know?
The bracelet and ring are Target purchases from a few years back. Notice I didn’t do an exact copy of the outfit, I simply drew inspiration from it. I liked the colors and the sorta boho vibe of it all. But I also have a bit of quirk to my personality, that’s why I added the funky brass ring and the wooden bangle.
The sweater and boots are also purchases from way back in the day. Sometimes it’s good to shop your closet, especially when you find new ways to work them… You can’t tell from the picture but I’m also wearing gray, tan and cream socks. I love boots, socks and a dress.
Tell me, what makes you unique?
