Did you know heart disease is this country’s number one killer? But it can be prevented. All you have to do is put one foot in front of the other and start walking. Today is National Start! Walking Day! Walking is one of my favorite workouts ~ it’s cheap, easy and anyone can do it. And there are many benefits to walking. By taking a 30 minute walk every day, you can:
*Reduce the risk of coronary heart disease
*Improve blood pressure and and blood sugar levels
*Improve blood lipid profile
*Maintain body weight and lower the risk of obesity
*Enhance mental well being
*Reduce the risk of osteoporosis
*Reduce the risk of breast and colon cancer
*Reduce the risk of non~insulin dependent (Type 2) diabetes
In honor of National Start! Walking Day, I hit the treadmill this morning and walked 3.5 miles. Yay me! When I’m walking, I like to listen to music that makes me feel good and pumps up my self~esteem. Here’s a list of my top 5 walking songs:
*Brick House ~ Commodores
*Mercy ~ Duffy
*You Gotta Be ~ Des’ree
*I’m Every Woman ~ Whitney Houston and Chaka Khan
*Video ~ India.Arie
What about you? Are there songs that get your heart pumping and make you feel good about yourself? If so, share them in the comments…
