Welcome to Style Imitating Art. I hope you had a restorative weekend. I spent mine catching up on Queen Sugar. Honestly, I didn’t realize how much of the show I’d missed until it returned a couple of weeks ago. Have you seen it? If not, come for the story but stay for the cinematography. It is breathtaking. I have rarely been so caught up in the scene of a television show {or movie, for that matter}… It’s a totally separate character.

ABOUT STYLE IMITATING ART

Style Imitating Art is hosted by Salazar {14 Shades of Grey}, Terri {Meadow Tree Style}, and me. Style Imitating Art challenges us to draw style inspiration from pieces of art. Every other Monday one of us selects an inspiration image and we each post the image on our blogs. The following Monday we share our art inspired outfits. Participants submit their art inspired outfits to the curator by 10 PM Tuesday and, that Wednesday, the curator shares all of the submissions on her blog.

THE CURATOR

This week’s work of art was chosen by Terri.

INSPIRATION ART WORK

Terri chose this tapestry because she’s “always been interested in the Bauhaus weavers, especially Gunta Stöltz. I decided to go with one of her pictorial weavings and it has purple!” Co-sign on the purple.

MY OUTFIT

When I first looked at the tapestry, I knew I was going to wear something with embroidery {honestly, when don’t I wear something with embroidery?} but I knew it would have to be relatively lightweight, after all, I am in Louisiana and it’s still pretty hot. But I wanted something that would give off the autumnal vibes of the inspiration piece. So I went digging through my closet and came across this flouncy Swiss Dot embroidered top from Three Bird Nest.

The flounce on the shoulders and the heavy embroidery make the top look fall-ish, but the sheer Swiss Dot material keeps everything light and airy. Although, I would be comfortable wearing this top in cooler weather and I stay cold. If you look carefully at the embroidery, you’ll see that it has a lot of the same colors as the tapestry. Just a little bit softer.

Normally, when I wear a top like this, I pair it with flare leg jeans because those are my go to silhouettes, but I was going to work, so I needed something a little more business casual. These navy ponte knit slim fit pants have been in my closet for years, but I think I’ve worn them once, maybe twice. I’m not sure why they don’t get that much love. They’re super comfortable {fit like a legging with the look of a pant} and, because they’re navy, they go with everything.

For shoes, I chose a pair of comfortable Mary Jane wedges, also in navy. I’m not normally a tonal/matchy-matchy kind of person but I wanted to keep the focus on my top because it’s just so darn pretty. Wedges are comfortable if you want a bit of lift but need to stay sure footed. I run around a lot at work and the last thing I want to do is topple over.
