Coffee Talk: Underground, Food Obsessions, and Other Stuff

Coffee Talk {living outside the stacks}

I’d like to welcome you to Coffee Talk. In case you’re new here, this is where I share some of the great and not~so~great stuff that I find on the web. Topics range from news stories that leave me scratchin’ my head to DIYs that I think are absolutely clever. And, who knows, there may even be a recipe thrown in here or there just for fun.

So grab a cup of coffee {or tea or whatever floats your boat} and let’s talk…

    1. Are you watching Underground? It’s a new series about a group of slaves and their escape to freedom. There’s so much to like about this show. One: the language is easy to follow. Many slave stories use dialect which can make it hard to understand the actors and, in turn, make it hard to follow the story. Two: the slaves have an actual plan. And we get to see the whole thing taking shape, from how they create the plan to who they choose for the group. Three: the acting is on point. Every last actor in this series is owning their part. Four: the music. I mean, it’s produced by John Legend, so I’d expect nothing less. But music really drives the story. In fact, I’d say it’s an additional character in this series. If you haven’t seen it, check it out.
    2. Avocado is my current food obsession. I want it on everything. In fact, I’m so digging avocados that I made a recipe board on Pinterest.
Follow {living outside the stacks}’s board Dinner for Two: Avocado on Pinterest.
I haven’t tried them in smoothies yet, but I have had them on toast, in salads, and on my burgers. I’m looking forward to trying out some of the other recipes on my board.
    3. Non-scale victory: this weekend I was able to fit into a pair of size 10 jeans. They were snug but I was able to zip them up. That’s more than I’ve been able to do in over two years. Yay me!

So, talk to me, what’s going on in your world,

  • 2. YES!!! Same here! I’ve been obsessed with avocados as well! Congrats on your size 10 victory. I’m also down to my lowest post-baby-number-3 size, and it feels great. I blame the avocado addiction, 😉

    • I’m all how come no one told me about avocados?! LOL

Congratulations! You look amazing!!! I’ve been following your progress and all I can say is INSPIRATION!!!!!

  • Juanita

First, congrats on the jeans!! Yay! I love avocado…on food and straight with a spoon! 🙂 Underground sounds like a show I would like but don’t have cable so I’ll have to eventually watch it when it’s available on dvd or something. Thanks for the info, I put it on my list.

    • I’m surprised it has taken me this long to discover avocado. I mean, like, where have I been? LOL

Underground is really good. Granted, I’ve only seen the first episode but still… A good show without a lot of nonsense.

  • Audrey McCulley

    Hey beautiful.
Just watched the first episode tonight on our streaming box and I must admit that I did enjoy its and I will say that I got very emotional (I cried) when Rosalee took the lasses for her brother. 🙁 shows like this always make me emotional and I told my husband that I’m going to try to watch this to end because I want to see how it end and who will actually get their freedom.
You are not alone with the avocado’s I’m been obsessed with them for about a month now… I have them with almost every thing… eggs and toast, feta cheese and chick peas, quinoa and kale, ground turkey burgers. I love them and I’ve done the same thing on Pinterest as well… LOL.

    • Girrrl, I was jumping every time Rosalee got hit. That scene was just crazy. And the master’s wife. She was just begging me to jump through the TV and smack her.

My sister said the same thing about avocado on ground turkey burgers. I don’t know how I’ve missed out on this food but it’s sooooo good.
