As the blogger and photographer behind Living Outside the Stacks, I independently select and write about stuff I love and things I think you’ll enjoy too. Living Outside the Stacks has affiliate and advertising partnerships so I get revenue from sharing this content and from your purchase. Thank you for your support.

Welcome to Style Imitating Art. I hope your visit means you’re planning to join us, because we’d definitely love to have you…

ABOUT STYLE IMITATING ART

Style Imitating Art is hosted by Salazar {14 Shades of Grey}, Kim {Fierce Fashion Blog}, and me. Style Imitating Art challenges us to draw style inspiration from pieces of art. Every other Monday one of us selects an inspiration image and we each post the image on our blogs. The following Monday we share our art inspired outfits. And that Wednesday, the curator shares all of the submissions on her blog.

THE CURATOR

This week’s image was chosen by me.

INSPIRATION ART WORK

Bell, C. (1973, January 01). Gumball II, 1973 – Charles Bell.

I chose this image because it reminds me of being a child and begging my mom for a quarter so I could get some gum then hoping that I wouldn’t get the dreaded gumball. Did you have a favorite flavor?

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENTS

This will be our last Style Imitating Art for 2020. I know… This is the time that we like to take time to relax and hang out with friends and family and, well, just enjoy the season. And given what 2020 has been, I think we could all use a bit of a break to decompress, don’t you? And, speaking of taking a break, did you notice that we are now two?

Kim has decided to step back from her co-hosting duties to focus on her health and settle in her new home. So that means that Salazar and I are looking for a new cohost… If you’re interested in art and fashion, and can keep to a regular posting schedule, contact us via email before the New Year.

SUBMISSIONS

Y’all, I can’t believe the number of submissions we’ve had for this week’s Style Imitating Art. I cannot say “thank you” loud enough. I wish you all the happiest and safest of holidays. And now on to the show…

To find out more about the contributors, click the highlighted blog name.

Jodie {Jodie’s Touch of Style}

Before I talk about Jodie’s outfit, let me highlight those shoes. I envy people who can walk in heels. And on uneven pavement. I mean. I just cannot…

OK, now to the outfit… There’s so much to love here. The polka dots perfectly mimic gumballs don’t they? I love the colors, the sheer skirting, everything.

Kezzie {KezzieAG}

Kezzie is so much fun, don’t you think? She opted to focus on the colors in her outfit, but I think the shapes are pretty darn spot on too. And how very adorable is that bear?

Lesley {Jodie’s Touch of Style}

I love the classic styling of Lesley’s dress with the red pumps. So pretty and fun.

Michelle {My Bijoux Life Online}

Michelle wrote that she normally focuses on colors when participating in these challenges, but this week she decided to look at the shapes. I think the shapes and the colors are perfect. There are browns in the nuts in the background.

Shelbee {Shelbee on the Edge}

Shelbee sent a couple of pictures for me to choose from and I fell in love with this one. It just screams fun. And every color in every gumball machine ever is represented.

Terri {Meadow Tree Style}

Terri “went with the contrast of color against neutral.” I think this is a color combination that I want to try. And, ummmm, look at those brogues! Cuuuuuuute!!

MY COHOST

Salazar {14 Shades of Grey}

Salazar wrote that she “…chose my colorful scarf to reflect the colors of the gumballs, and the rest of the outfit I kept in simple shades of white and brown to mimic the background and the rusty red tops of the gumball machines.” While I’m always an admirer of Salazar’s brooches, I’m digging that scarf as well.

MY OUTFIT

You can see my original post here.

And a throwback picture of me blowing a bubble from 4 years ago…

Now go play in your closet,
