I’ve been thinking about the way that I review books and I’ve come to the conclusion that my method isn’t really fair. I’m specifically talking about the star ratings. I’ve notice that I tend to give a minimum of 4 stars to every book that I review, even the ones that I don’t particularly like. Why? Because the reason I don’t like a book may have absolutely nothing to do with the story or the writing style but with the likability of the characters or how well I’m able to identify with the theme or subject. This kinda makes the stars irrelevant, don’t you think? I do.
So, that means I need to think about why and how I’m reviewing books. The reason I review books is because I enjoy reading and I assume that many of you enjoy reading too, so I thought it’d be fun to share books that I enjoy {or not} and why. And, the librarian in me, really enjoys encouraging folks to read for pleasure. With that in mind, my reviews will continue to focus on the things I like and dislike about the books I read, and I’ll share my favorite lines {because sometimes a sentence will stick with me}, but I won’t use the stars.
And because I enjoy photography, there will be pretty photos to go with the reviews…
