The focus of this week’s Advent study is HOPE. Hope means to anticipate or expect with confidence.

Jesus is the Light {Living Outside the Stacks}

SCRIPTURE

John 1:4 {KJV}

In him was life; and the life was the light of men.

OBSERVATION

Jesus is life and light; without Him, there is only death and darkness.

APPLICATION

I’m a news junkie. I watch the news pretty much from the minute I wake up until I go to bed. When I’m at work, I have the radio set to a news channel or talk radio. I like knowing what’s going on in the world around me.

One day, while watching another one of my news programs, the hubs turned to me and said “How do you watch this all day without getting depressed?” I can watch without worry because I know who holds my future. Jesus’s birth, death and resurrection let’s me know that no matter how dark things get, no matter how scary things seem, there is light. There is hope.

PRAYER

Dear Heavenly Father,

I thank you for coming into this world and giving me hope when there was none. Thank you for loving me even when I least deserved it. And as we go into this season of celebration, please help me to stay focused on the “reason for the season”. Let your light shine through me so that others can share in the hope of eternal life through You.

Amen.

ABOUT THE STUDY

This month, I will be participating in the Advent Study, Keeping Our Hearts Focused on Jesus, hosted by the ladies at Good Morning Girls. Good Morning Girls are a group of Christian women who email, Facebook, Twitter and text message each other to keep them accountable for their quiet times. You can even catch them on Instagram, just follow the hashtag #goodmorninggirls.

Having quiet time in the Word is a great way to begin or end the day. It gives you time to focus on God and His will for your life as well as to renew and refresh your strength. I encourage you to take a few minutes out of your day and spend some time just reading and thinking about the Lord.

If you’re joining in, please leave a comment below so I can pray with you.
