17 Years Ago Today…
I gave birth to my first child. Like all mother’s I remember that day as if it were yesterday…. It was a hot and sticky day and I was stationed at Fort Polk, Louisiana and I was 4 days past my due date. To say I was miserable would be putting it mildly. I woke up early that morning with a slight tightening of my stomach but nothing that indicated that labor would be occurring any time soon. My doctor had scheduled a check up for later that afternoon, so I went to work and waited for my appointment. I was literally praying that the doctor would induce labor. Being…

We Were Drama Queens from Birth
Oh how I wish I’d found this on Sunday! My sister and I have always known the story of our birth, Mom used it as a way to highlight our need for drama since birth. And as I tell you the story, you’ll understand that we come by our dramatics honestly. Thank you, Mom and Dad. It was about 2 AM on a Saturday morning in 1973 when my dad went racing down the streets of Washington, D.C. in his little Datsun. Ten Random Facts About Me
1. I make up words. Sometimes I don’t realize I’ve done it until someone says “Whaaaaa?” Fortunately, my family’s used to it and they just let it go and figure out what I mean by context. 2. My twin sister is 45 minutes older than I am. When we were kids I used to say we were equal in age, now I love the fact that she’s older. 3. My first car was a Pontiac Fiero. I’ve had 3, I wrecked 1 and the other 2 died on me. That was over 16 years ago but every time I hear “I’ll Never Get Over You Getting Over Me” by Expose I’m…

Introducing Coffee Talk
A little over a year ago a friend of mine from high school contacted me and, after catching up, he said he was surprised to find me living such “a suburban lifestyle.” When I asked him to explain, he said he always thought that I’d be living in the middle of a jungle somewhere reporting on political coups, genocides or other social upheavals… Wow! I remember when that was my dream. I thought I’d change the world with my writing. When I first started this blog, my plan was to write about my journey as I adjusted to life away from the library stacks but over time time my focus…

Flashback Friday
Alrighty now, thanks to the magical skills of Christie at My Life – A Work in Progress, it’s time to hop into the time machine for Flashback Friday and see where it takes us… *cue The Police ~ Every breath you take….* The year is 1983 and I am at the 7-Eleven buying as much candy as I can for twenty-five cents, ’cause you know, back in the day you could buy a bag of candy for a quarter. Do you remember the candy that looked like a football? Or the ones that looked like little hamburgers? How about Bazooka Joe and the little comics? I used to try to…
