Coffee Talk {living outside the stacks}

I’d like to welcome you to Coffee Talk. In case you’re new here, this is where I share some of the great and not~so~great stuff that I find on the web. Topics range from news stories that leave me scratchin’ my head to DIYs that I think are absolutely clever. And, who knows, there may even be a recipe thrown in here or there just for fun.

So grab a cup of coffee {or tea or whatever floats your boat} and let’s talk…

  1. Every year I say I’m not gonna do it and every year I watch it and I cry. You know what I’m talking about. Those “Thank you, Mom” commercials from P&G. Whoever writes the ad campaign for that should get a bonus. All of the feels. Every single one of them. Don’t say I didn’t warn you…
  2. When I first read the headline for this story about Shonda Rhimes and her complaint about Mother’s Day cards, I started to roll my eyes… I thought, Oh, no, here we go again. Someone complaining about nothing. And don’t even pretend like you don’t make snap judgments based on a title without reading the article. Notice I took the two extra steps and read the article and watched the video. Then I read the article and listened to her words and, y’all, she hit the nail on the head! I’m always telling my daughters {and my son} that I want them to be strong and independent. I want them to be in relationships because they want to be and not because they have to be. There is a difference. I want them to get an education, work hard, and make decisions based on sound judgement and strong prayer.
  3. The semester ended and with it came the end of my time on campus with my daughters. In Fall 2016, my girls will be moving away to attend college. This will be the first time that I’ll not have one of my kids on campus with me. You guys, the tears have already started. I’ve become so used to them popping into my office to ask me questions, tell me about their day, or just ignore me while they text their friends. I don’t know what I’m gonna do…

I’m wishing you a very happy Mother’s Day,

Daenel T {Living Outside the Stacks}
