Street Photography {Living Outside the Stacks}

I like to think I’m brave but I’m not. At least not when it comes to taking out my camera in public spaces. Even at tourist spots, I get nervous when I pull out out my camera and start shooting. So this week’s theme for the 365 Project: 2013 Edition was particularly challenging. We had to go out and capture street scenes; impromptu pictures that tell a story. Basically, a moment out of a stranger’s life. So intimidating.

For this first picture, I sat in the parking lot across the street from the gas station and started snapping away. I felt like a total creeper but I like the way the car lights reflect off the wet concrete. And, if you look carefully at the top right hand corner, you’ll see a UFO.

    I feel weird when I’m in public and I want to take a picture. There has never been a time where I was left alone while doing so. There is always someone who wants to know WHY I’m taking a picture. -_- When I get my Canon, I plan to whip it out everywhere!

    I love your shot. I did see the UFO. LOL!

    I’m totally laughing- I am like this too. I feel like the world is watching if I pull out the camera in a public place that is not for tourists. Plus even if I am- since I am a local, I feel strange, like everyone thinks I’m a tourist. I really shouldn’t care- but I can’t seem to move past it & I’m missing out on great photo ops because of it. We need to push past it together.

    • Gina, I don’t understand why I feel so awkward. It’s a camera! But, man, it’s so hard to take “public” pictures but I’ve promised myself that I’m going to get out there as soon as it warms up. I’m not about the cold at all. LOL
