Old St. Vincent’s Catholic Church
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, some of my best adventures happen by chance… This past Saturday, The Hubs and I were out for a drive when we noticed a sign in front of Old St. Vincent’s Catholic Church that read “Open for Tours”. I’ve been dying to go inside pretty much since we moved here {I have mad love for gothic style buildings, old homes, and cathedrals/churches}. So, yay for the signage! We went inside and were treated to a tour and a bit of a history lesson. The first St. Vincent’s Church was constructed in 1838 and destroyed by a tornado in 1850. The existing…

A Letter to Mr. 18 on Your Graduation
My dear sweet boy young man, you were our surprise. As in nine days before you were born, we found out you’d been in there just chillin’ — synching your heartbeat to your sister’s, matching her breath for breath and kick for kick. Never letting on that you were there. As I sat in the NICU staring at your little face, I was filled with so many things: love, hope, insecurity, amazement, gratitude, but, mostly, fear. We hadn’t had much time to prepare for two babies, much less a little boy. But I knew we’d make it. And make it we did, through chipped teeth, black eyes, emptied fish tanks, “spots”, and…

A Letter to Miss 18 on Your Graduation
Munro. I’ve stopped and started writing this so many times that I’ve lost count… I don’t have the words to express the love, pride, and gratitude that I’m feeling right now. You have overcome so much and demonstrated a strength and grace under pressure that can only be attributed to the mercy of God. I thank Him every day for allowing me the privilege and honor of being your mother. Next week, when you walk across that stage and accept your diploma, don’t take that moment lightly. You earned that degree… Eighteen years ago, your dad and I sat in a hospital room, holding your tiny hand in ours, unsure…

Friendship for Grown-ups: A Look Back
Three years ago, I reviewed a book by Lisa Whelchel called Friendship for Grown-ups: What I Missed & Learned Along the Way. Lisa talked about how she was on this show that was all about the strength and support that comes from having close female relationships, yet she was all alone. Lisa’s words spoke to me at that time. I remember I was going through a period of deep loneliness. I was surrounded by people {family, an online community of friends, coworkers} but I was living this incredibly solitary life. This life that made me feel like I was somehow incomplete… Recently, during a phone conversation, a friend mentioned that she’d had an experience that…

Happy Fist Bump Friday!
If you follow me on Facebook or Instagram, you know that I like to do a little something called “Fist Bump Friday”, where I encourage my friends to share something that made them happy during the week. Sometimes we get so bogged down with life and the crazy that comes with it that we forget to acknowledge the good things. So I thought it’d be fun if we all shared and celebrated together. This week I’m happy that I was able to complete a project at work that started nearly two years ago. To have something hanging over your head for nearly two years and then finally see it come…
