First of all, I owe my cohosts an apology — I am so late on this post. It’s the end of the term and I’ve been incredibly busy trying to wrap things up…

ABOUT WHERE BLOGGERS LIVE

Welcome to the monthly edition of Where Bloggers Live. It’s kind of like HGTV’s “Celebrities at Home,” but…Bloggers! Who doesn’t like to peek behind the scenes and see inside people’s homes? Over the next few months, a group of seven bloggers will be sharing their work spaces, their homes, towns and more!

THE THEME: My Favorite Holiday Tradition

I’ve had this nativity set since my kids were little, I think my youngest may have been five or six when I bought it. It reminded me of the Christmas plays we used to put on at church — kids dressed as sheep and angels and wise men, etc. When the kids were little, The Hubs would have the kids gather around the nativity and he’d read the story of Christ’s birth, we’d say a prayer, then the kids would open their gifts.

Finding African American Christmas ornaments used to be darned near impossible, so I used to scoop them up as soon as I saw them. Target has the cutest little people, but they only put out precious few, so you have to get there early to find them. For the past three years, I’ve made it my mission to find enough people for everyone in my family. That’s no easy task because I have 5 kids and 6 grandkids.

And, now that my kids have significant others, things have become a bit harder. No lie, my kids think it’s hilarious that I do this and their significant others think it’s weird; my kids are like “Just let it happen.”

Bleu isn’t quite so impressed with the tree. Lola took a look around and then moved on. Squeekerz used to sleep under the tree, so it’s funny that they’re so not at all interested.

A NEW TRADITION

My kids are all grown and out of the house now and, because of jobs and other responsibilities, getting together for the holidays isn’t easy for us. So I’ve tried to come up with a way for us to stay connected and enjoy the holidays together. As we all know, I’m a coffee drinker, so I sent the kids Christmas mugs so that we can all share hot chocolate or coffee on Christmas eve. Much like when they were kids, I found coffee mugs that I thought fit their personalities.

Now it’s your turn

What’s your favorite holiday tradition? Leave a comment below letting me know how you celebrate.
