The last time I saw my twin sister was in 2019. We haven’t celebrated our birthday together in years – we’ve almost always lived way too many miles apart for quick visits and life has pretty much gotten in the way of extended visits. A few years ago, she moved a little over five hours away from me and the visits became a bit more regular. Then COVID happened. And everything came to a screeching halt. Since we couldn’t see each other in person, we started calling, texting, and DMing on Instagram waaaaay more often than we ever had before. We also started shopping online more often and started accidentally buying coordinating or matching outfits.

I received the Pfizer vaccine in February and almost immediately The Hubs started planning a visit to Mississippi so that my sister and I could see each other for our birthday. This, my friends, is the result: our first ever photo shoot which happened to coincide with this month’s Fab Forties theme.

About the Fab Forties

The Fab Forties is a group of style bloggers from around the globe who come together once a month to share their common love of fashion. Each month we choose a different theme and invite a guest blogger, who is also in her forties, to join us. The group’s goal is to take on a style trend and show how we each interpret and incorporate it into our lives. Five different ladies, five different styles, you’re sure to find something that inspires you.

The Theme

This month’s theme is: “Birds of a Feather” and was selected by Shelbee. When I initially read this theme, my heart kind of did a skip and a flop because I am deathly afraid of birds. Like I once locked myself in a bedroom closet because a bird got in the house and I had to call my pre-teen son home from his grandma’s house to get it out because The Hubs was at work and Squeekerz was about as helpful as a monkey in a tornado playing with glitter. Seriously. He {The Boy, not the dog} still teases me about it.

Anyway, back to the topic at hand: I own one bird themed top that I don’t wear nearly enough, so I started building an outfit around it…

Then The Hubs surprised me with a trip to see my parents and my “wombmate”…

OUR LOOK

Imagine my surprise when I saw my sister and we were both wearing tunics. My sister is a tailored suits and stilettos kind of girl while I’m a tunics and clogs person. As for colors, she’s always stuck to classic tones while I’ve bounced between neons and neutrals. She wears a lot of bling and I’m all beads and stones. I mean, we really couldn’t be more different, so this whole photo shoot came as a complete *gasp* to the both of us.

Anyway, when I went to Mississippi, I’d initially planned to only do a shoot for my sister, but when I saw that we had on complimentary colored tops and then owned the same top, I decided to shoot us both for this post. You can see pictures I took of her on Instagram.

These tops were purchased as part of an Outfit of the Week deal that happens weekly on Three Bird Nest {one of our favorite shopping sites}. They came with the funkiest earrings — they’ll make an appearance in a later post. While the earth-toned tops were purchased from two separate stores: hers is from Three Bird Nest and mine is LOGO from QVC.

Yes, I really am that much taller than she is. When we were born, she was 4 lbs 3 oz and I was 3 lbs 4 oz. I always joke that I was like, “Hey, girl, you still hungry? You can have my umbilical cord.”

How sweet is Ada’s top? I love the soft tones in her outfit, so very spring-like.

Shelbee, Shelbee on the Edge  – Rediscover your edge

Shelbee’s swan dress is the cutest! I love it paired with the pops of red. And that fascinator is simply darling!

Suzy, The Grey Brunette – Happily giving the finger to ageism!

I don’t know what I love more about Suzy’s outfit: the hair, the sweater, the purse, or the boots. It’s all so fabulous.
