The Fab Forties is a group of five style bloggers from around the globe who come together once a month to share their common love of fashion. Each month we choose a different theme and invite a guest blogger, who is also in her forties, to join us. The group’s goal is to take on a style trend and show how we each interpret and incorporate it into our lives. Six different ladies, six different styles, you’re sure to find something that inspires you.
The Theme
Jennie {A Pocketful of Polka Dots} chose our theme this month and our guest co-host is Sherry {Petite Over 40}.
My Outfit
I went back and forth over who I wanted to imitate – Halle Berry or Nicole Richie, both of them inspire me for different reasons. I adore Halle Berry’s laid back style. It’s a funky blend of boho, edge, and apocalyptic fashion. You can see what I mean by checking out my Pinterest board here.
Ultimately, I chose Nicole Richie because Nicole Richie. We’ve watched her grow from punky teenager to beautiful young woman and I just think her style is fun, quirky, and glamorous. Even when she’s dressed up, you can see just a hint of that rebellious teen and, as a reformed rebel teen, I appreciate the mischief. You can see some more of her style here.
Part of me kept thinking I should step outside of my comfort zone with this challenge. I mean, I’m pretty much always in some form of a boho look. But that’s who I am.
Anyway, I decided to keep my makeup neutral – a flushed cheek and nude lips, a bit of mascara and eyeliner. Nothing too heavy.
As for jewelry, I thought I’d go with a mix of bold and delicate pieces, blended with ethnic and glam pieces to keep things eclectic.
Guest Co-Host
Sherry {Petite Over 40}
How fun is Sherry’s picture? She totally captured the fun and spunk that is Cindy Lauper.
Fun fact: I wanted to dress like Cindy Lauper when I was a kid, but my parents were preachers, so that was a big ol’ no. Instead I ended up saving my money and buying a watch with the words to True Colors inscribed on the face.
My Co-Hosts
Jennie {A Pocketful of Polka Dots}
Audrey, is that you? Jennie’s photo is beyond playful. And classic.
Fun fact: I bought this polka dot top with a Peter Pan collar because I thought it looked like something Audrey Hepburn would wear.
Shelbee {Shelbee on the Edge}
How cute is Shelbee? Fun, fun, fun!
Fun fact: My kids and I used to car dance to Let Me Blow Ya Mind, the Eve andGwen collaboration.
Suzy {Pixie Chick in Portugal}
Suzy totally nailed it – the pixie pants with the ballet flats. Perfect.
Fun fact: I also bought these Pixie Pants because they’re Audrey-esque.
