Welcome to Style Imitating Art. I hope you’re visit means you’re planning to join us, because we’d definitely love to have you…

Honestly, I wasn’t sure if I was going to participate in this week’s style challenge. With everything going on, I don’t feel much like posting frivolity. In fact, I haven’t felt like posting anything at all. I’ve been filled with rage and disgust and sadness and disappointment and just about every negative emotion you can fathom.

This morning, things changed.

I received an email from YouVersion about an interview with actress Letitia Wright that had been posted on the app. I quickly read through the notes and highlighted the email so I could remember to watch the interview when I had a chance. Now, I receive daily verses and affirmations from YouVersion, and – sorry – most of the time, I scan the verse to click off my To Do List and then I hit delete. I know… But something made me save this email.

A few hours later, I was scanning my email and saw the highlighted message. I clicked over to the app and watched the video. And, for the first time in a long time, I felt something I haven’t felt in a long time: HOPE. In the video, Ms. Wright references Matthew 6:33:

But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

My takeaway from her message? I need to refocus my gaze on Christ and keep Him as the center of my life. I’ve been focusing on the pandemic, the racism, the economy… everything but Christ. As I’ve said many times, I live in this world, but I’m not of this world. I can work to make this world better for my physical existence, but I cannot do that to the detriment of my spiritual existence.

ABOUT STYLE IMITATING ART

Style Imitating Art is hosted by Salazar {14 Shades of Grey}, Kim {Fierce Fashion Blog}, and me. Style Imitating Art challenges us to draw style inspiration from pieces of art. Every other Monday one of us selects an inspiration image and we each post the image on our blogs. The following Monday we share our art inspired outfits. And that Wednesday, the curator shares all of the submissions on her blog.

THE CURATOR

This week’s image was chosen by Kim.

INSPIRATION ART WORK

Peter Max Liberty Head

Kim chose this image “…Since we are celebrating Memorial Day and it’s an American holiday, I thought using the Statue of Liberty would be timely.  I like that red white and blue are streaked over her face and the other colors are bursting out around her head.

STYLING IDEAS

Here are Kim’s styling ideas: “…in addition to the variety of color, a patriotic theme, grey, stripes, stars could be pulled out of the art.”

MY OUTFIT

Yellow Floral Top Black Pants and Red Wedges {living outside the stacks}

I dug through the archives for this look and I think it fits perfectly. While my colors are much more saturated than those in the image, I think they still reflect the whimsy of the inspiration piece.

And, I mean, who cannot have fun in red wedges?

How are you dealing with things? Please be honest. If I’ve learned nothing else, I’ve learned that it’s OK to feel your feelings, you just have to find a way to cope and express them in a healthy way.
