Style Imitating Art {living outside the stacks}

Hi, how are you? How was your weekend? We didn’t do much. We enrolled Bleu in a training class, so we’re staying near the house for the next few weeks so she doesn’t miss a class. She did really well her first day, but she came home and immediately fell asleep. Poor thing.

ABOUT STYLE IMITATING ART

Style Imitating Art is hosted by Salazar {14 Shades of Gray}, Kim {Fierce Fashion Blog}, and me. Style Imitating Art challenges us to draw style inspiration from pieces of art. Every other Monday one of us selects an inspiration image and we each post the image on our blogs. The following Monday we share our art inspired outfit. My main tip for participating is not to just look at the colors but look at the textures, think about complimentary colors, etc. In other words, you don’t have to be literal in your interpretation. It’s all about looking at the items in your closet in new and creative ways — mixing colors and patterns and just having fun.

THE CURATOR

This week’s inspiration piece was curated by me. Living Outside the Stacks is all about my life away from the library.

INSPIRATION ART WORK

Textile Sample {The Met, Open Access Collection}

Textile Sample, ca. 1920. Unknown designer.

The Met Open Access Collection.

I have to admit, I had a hard time picking an inspiration piece this week. Today is our first day of classes at the college and, I don’t know about you, but the first day of school always makes me think Fall. Buuuuut it was over 100° the other day, so Fall clothes are not exactly in the mix. However, the bright but muted colors of this textile summer still lend their way for Fall clothing  if it’s getting cooler in your neck of the woods or if it’s still blazing hot like it is here in Louisiana.

Besides the obvious gold and turquoise, I see shades of black, purple, pink, cream, and even a hint of brown. You can also play with texture for this piece, e.g. silk or woven fabrics.

What will you wear? I can’t wait to see.

MY LOOK

I had originally intended to wear something else for this prompt, but weight gain changed my plans.

I seriously love these glasses, but they’re too big for my face. LOL I still wear them when I wanna feel a little funky though.
