Hi! Welcome to another round of Style Imitating Art. I hope y’all had a good weekend. We did. We started decorating the house for Christmas, something we haven’t done since the kids moved out. This year, however, everyone is coming to our place for Christmas and I want it to be festive for the grandbabies.

INSPIRATION ART WORK

Sin Saimdang {style imitating art inspiration}

“Watermelons and Field Mice” by Sin Saimdang

Sin Saimdang is a 16th-century Korean female artist, writer, calligraphist, and poet best known for her paintings of plants and insects.

You can learn more about Sin Saimdang here.

THE CURATOR

This week’s inspiration piece was curated by Salazar at 14 Shades of Grey. Salazar was fortunate enough to see some of Saimdang’s paintings in a museum when she traveled to South Korea. She chose this image because “there are a lot of colors and details in this painting, so it should be fun to interpret in an outfit.”

MY LOOK

Initially, I thought I’d focus on the deeper saturated tones in the image, but – at the last minute – I decided to bring out the blushy pink colors of the watermelon flesh. This pale pink is so out of my normal color range, but I have this same top in a raspberry shade and I love it, so I thought why not. The Hubs was surprised to find that I own two of the same tops in different colors. Ha! If only he knew how often that happens. Please tell me I’m not the only one who does this.

Anyway, I like the long criss cross scarf ties and the flowy cut of the blouse. If you’ve been following me on Instagram for a long time, then you know that I have an intense love for scarves. Unfortunately, I don’t get to wear them as much now that we live in the South, so having them attached to my blouse is a great alternative.

Next I pulled out my flare leg jeans because, well, I love myself some flare legs. I think they’re a much more flattering cut on me than skinny jeans or jeggings {although I still try to wear them}. Last, but not least, I capped everything off with these fun olive colored pumps. Isn’t the print on the heel just fun? They kind of have a Regency flare to them, no?
