11|52: Photographer’s Choice
I’m a bit behind because, well, life. So, pardon me while I play catch up… There’s something about low light photography, sparks, and smoke, am I right? PHOTO INFO Nikon D850, 50mm Image details were lost. THE STORY When I first started taking pictures of the welders, I was intimidated – the light was low, there were sparks flying everywhere, and the students were incredibly nervous having me around {concerned for my safety}. Over the years, I’ve become more adept at quickly and safely getting the shot. And the students have gotten used to me floating around… ABOUT THE 52 WEEK PROJECT I get ambitious at the beginning of every…

10|52: Details
I turned 51 on 10 March and, y’all, I still look around for the adult in the room and am gobsmacked when I realize I’m the freaking adult. PHOTO INFO Nikon D850, 50mm 1/20 | f/1.8 | ISO 1600 THE STORY I usually try to get in front of the lens on my birthday, you know, for a birthday picture, but I wasn’t feeling it this year. I’d been dealing with a bout of food poisoning and wasn’t feeling or looking my best. But you only turn 51 once. Since the prompt was detail, I decided to get a close up {or, at least, as close as I dared} shot…

9|52: Re-Edit an Old Image
ORIGINAL EDIT When I originally edited this image, I wanted to keep with the boho feel of the whole shoot, which you can see starting here on Instagram. I kept the tones earthy and just a little on the gritty side, to fit the location {which was beautifully rustic and lush}. RE-EDIT I converted the image to a sepia tone and lifted the shadows and contrast to match the vintage feel of the cabin. It still captures the boho vibe that my friend wanted when I originally shot the image, there’s just a little bit more of a vintagey feel to it. PHOTO INFO Nikon D850 1/1250 | f/1.8 |…

8|52: Guilty Pleasure
PHOTO INFO Apple iPhone 15 Plus 1/60 | f/1.6 | ISO 160 THE STORY I started drinking coffee when I was about 10 years ago. My sisters and I grew up in Italy {my stepfather was in the Air Force}, where my parents were the pastors of a church that was about 2 hours away from our home. After services, they’d spend time talking, praying, and counseling those in need, while my sisters and I were left to our own devices. While my parents chatted, I’d help myself to the refreshments – cookies, hot chocolate, tea, and, of course, coffee. Sometimes my parents and the congregants would talk for hours,…

6|52: Wabi Sabi
PHOTO INFO Nikon D850, 35mm lens 1/8000| f/1.8 | ISO 160 THE STORY I pass by this building every time I walk between our campuses. I hope they never tear it down. It has so much crumbly, graffiti goodness. ABOUT THE 52 WEEK PROJECT I get ambitious at the beginning of every year and start photography projects that I never finish. This year will be different. 5|52: Looking Up
THE STORY Honestly, there isn’t a story here. This was, by far, the hardest of the prompts. I didn’t want to take a picture of the sky, I mean, the sky is beautiful, but I wanted something that would contrast with the sky, like a tall building or a plane. I thought it’d be easy as I usually see the crop dusters while traveling between the campuses but nope. This must’ve been the week all the farmers decided to let their crops fend for themselves. So the underside of a faux flower it is. ABOUT THE 52 WEEK PROJECT I get ambitious at the beginning of every year and start…

4|52: My Hometown
PHOTO INFO Nikon D850, 50mm lens 1/1250 | f/1.8 | ISO 64 THE STORY I live in a small town called Alexandria, in Central Louisiana. When I was in the Army, I was stationed at Fort Johnson about 45 minutes or so away from here and I had no idea this place existed. About five years ago, The Hubs had the opportunity to come back and, of course, I said yes because I love Louisiana. This mural is commissioned by a local marketing company just down the street from where I work. They change it every so often, but, before they do, the kids like to take pictures in front…

3|52: Still Life Self Portrait
PHOTO INFO Nikon D850, 50mm lens 1/100 | f/1.8 | ISO 500 THE STORY This one was harder than the self portrait. I’m so not any good at flat lays and I tried several times, until I finally went with what I know and appreciate: coffee. I started drinking coffee when I was about eleven. We were living in Italy and both my parents were preachers, so they’d spend a lot of time talking to people after service. They’d talk so long that the hot chocolate and tea would be gone before they finished, so I’d start on the coffee. I’m also a hobbyist photographer, so I wanted to show…

2|52: Intention
PHOTO INFO Nikon D850, 50mm lens 1/2000 | f/1.8 | ISO 1000 THE STORY My goal for this week was to try to capture a bit of the light streaming through the dining room window. Bonus capture: my sweet girl, Bleu, taking a nap. ABOUT THE 52 WEEK PROJECT I get ambitious at the beginning of every year and start photography projects that I never finish.
