{Audiobook Review} The Tennant by Frieda McFadden, Narrated by Will Damron and Christine Lakin

I cannot stress this enough, I’m a Frieda McFadden fan and will read or listen to any book of hers that comes across my desk. Her characters are twisted and the inner dialogue so diabolical that I cannot help but to enjoy them. I also like that I can listen to her audiobooks at work without any NSFW surprises.

For the graphic, I decided to try something new: highlighting a few of the visuals from the book. I picked up this idea from booktok. Digital book journalists like to use graphics to help them remember details of books and I thought it’d be fun to do that here. Let me know what you think.

ABOUT THE BOOK (from the book)

Blake Porter is riding high, until he’s not. Fired abruptly from his job as a VP of marketing and unable to make the mortgage payments on the new brownstone he shares with his fiancée, he’s desperate to make ends meet.

Enter Whitney. Beautiful, charming, down-to-earth, and looking for a room to rent. She’s exactly what Blake’s looking for. Or is she?

Because something isn’t quite right. The neighbors start treating Blake differently. The smell of decay permeates his home, no matter how hard he scrubs. Strange noises jar him awake in the middle of the night. And soon Blake fears someone knows his darkest secrets…

Danger lives right at home, and by the time Blake realizes it, it’ll be far too late. The trap is already set.

My Thoughts

I just finished listening to this book and all I can say is be careful who you love and be even more careful about who you invite into your home. In fact, no matter how sad the story, just don’t let anyone live with you. Ever. Listening as Blake’s life slowly fell apart was intense, especially since you understand why he reacts the way he does. Will Damron did such a fabulous job of voicing Blake that I could feel him spiraling. But when you find out why it’s all happening, that makes it so much crazier.

This book has everything: revenge, murder, a slow descent into madness, rage, and more.

Definitely a ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ read for me.

Narration

The narrators’ voices were perfect for the characters. Will Damron as Blake was intense. You could feel the pent up rage in his voice as he became increasingly frustrated with Whitney, but even more, you could feel his panic as he realized that things were not at all what he thought them to be. Christine Lakin is equally chilling in her role as Krista, the fiancée, and Whitney, the tenant.

The Cover Art

I love the cover art on this book. As I listened to the story, I kept trying to figure out where it fit, but couldn’t. I do that with cover art — try to imagine how the design came to be. Still, I like it. It’s slightly twisted, like every female character in every Frieda McFadden book that I’ve ever read.
