I was recently nominated for and accepted into Leadership Cenla. Leadership Cenla is hosted by LSUA and is an eight-month long series of workshops that include hands-on learning experiences, access to industry experts, tours of local businesses, and insight into the opportunities and challenges in our community. The goal is to strengthen our ties to the region and use our skills to make Cenla better place to live, work, and play.

Our first assignment for Leadership Cenla was to write and submit our biographies. This is what I submitted:

Daenel A. Vaughn-Tucker has served as the Director of Library Services at Central Louisiana Technical Community College (CLTCC) in Alexandria, Louisiana, for six years and nine months. In this leadership role, she draws upon her master’s degrees in library and information science and American History. She also contributes to the college as its photographer and social media coordinator.
Daenel has been a librarian for 19 years, developing significant expertise in several key areas. These include research methodologies, promoting the ethical use of information, and effectively utilizing social media and marketing strategies to enhance library services.
Her dedication to CLTCC is demonstrated by her completion of the Louisiana Leadership Academy through Louisiana’s Community and Technical College System (LCTCS) in 2022 and her receipt of the 2020 Outstanding Professional Staff Award (CLTCC).
Beyond her professional life, Daenel has been married to Anthony Tucker for 30 years. Both she and her husband are U.S. Army veterans who met and married in Leesville while stationed at Fort Johnson. Together, they have five adult children and are the proud grandparents of six grandchildren.
In her personal time, Daenel enjoys photography, is an avid coffee drinker, and has been an active book and style blogger for nearly sixteen years. She and Anthony currently live in Alexandria with their two rescue dogs, Bleu and Lola.
Our kick-off dinner was held on Thursday, 27 March at the Diamond Grill. We met our cohort members, discussed the plans for the next 8 months, and listened to community updates from the president of the Cenla Chamber of Commerce, the mayor, and the chancellor of LSUA. Our first official session included a tour of the England Airpark and local businesses housed on the campus. I hadn’t realized how integrated Fort Johnson, the local Army post, is in our community; it made my heart swell with pride. The Hubs and I were both stationed there many years ago, and it makes me happy to know that we played a part in building up this community that would become our adopted home.

If you’re keeping up, this marks off two squares on my 2025 Vision Board Bingo Card. Two of my 2025 goals are to:
  • volunteer
  • go to and document 4 city events

When I was asked if I was interested, my gut reaction was to say “no” because this is so far out of my comfort zone. Doing library things is easy. Taking pictures is easy. Meeting with and interacting with people outside of my normal sphere of influence is challenging. I know, hard to believe, considering I had a leadership position in the Army and that I’m a member of the leadership team at the college. But the truth of the matter is that I’m an introvert who masquerades as an extrovert.

The Hubs and I have been in Alexandria for almost seven years now and I’ve come to love this community. I value the work that I do at the college and love knowing that I’m helping to make a difference in the lives of the people who live here. I want people to see Alexandria the way that I do: a place of opportunity. By participating in Leadership Cenla, my goal is to strengthen my weaknesses and use my strengths to improve the Cenla community. You can learn more about my 2025 Vision Board Bingo Card here.

ABOUT THE BLOGGING FROM A TO Z APRIL CHALLENGE

I’m linking up with Suzy at SuzyTurner.com for her A to Z Blogging Challenge. Do you remember blogging challenges from the early days of blogging? They were so much fun as they provided an opportunity to learn more about the people in my blogging circle and I found new blogs {and picked up new bloggers}. Before I go off  on a tangent, the idea behind this blogging challenge is to write a post every day of the month of April {wait, what? How did I miss that part? I thought it was once a month. Haha Jokes on me.}. Anyway, the goal is to write a post following the alphabet for every day of the month. If you decide to join us, please leave a comment with your blog link below. Thank you!

THANK YOU
