Coffee Talk {living outside the stacks}

I’d like to welcome you to Coffee Talk. If you’re new here, this is where I share some of the great and not~so~great stuff that I find on the web. Topics range from news stories that leave me scratchin’ my head to DIYs that I think are absolutely clever. And, who knows, there may even be a recipe thrown in here or there just for fun.

So grab a cup of coffee {or tea or whatever floats your boat} and let’s talk…

Have you been following the stories about the Stanford University rapist? I can’t even think of enough words to convey how jacked up the sentence is, how foul the family is, and how out of touch the judge is. The basic responsibility of every parent is to teach their kid(s) to be responsible, kind, and decent; these parents failed. And now the justice system has failed. My heart goes out to the young lady who was victimized by this rapist and by the judge. I hope she’s able to find some measure of peace in her life and I pray that this situation doesn’t define her. And, last, I pray that everyone who is a parent or who has some influence over a young person teaches them that sex without consent is rape.

When parents raise their kids to do the right thing, you get wonderful stories like this: Grade schoolers use water guns to help put out an apartment fire. Sweet, no? Notice these kids didn’t whip out their cell phones and start taking pictures, they didn’t stand there and watch, they used what they had to help. That is parenting done right.

Now it’s your turn, what’s got you scratching your head?
