Every so often I like to peruse the web and do some virtual window shopping, especially when the weather starts to change and all the fun new styles start to come out. But I’ve never been challenged to create an outfit and share it on my blog until now.

One of the ModStylists at Modcloth contacted me to see if I’d be interested in pulling together an Autumn look and sharing it with you all… At first, I was kind of hesitant because I wasn’t sure if I’m in the Modcloth demographic. I mean, I’m 42 years old. But once I started looking around, I found that there are pieces that I could easily incorporate into my current wardrobe without making me look like I’m trying too hard to be young.

Anyway, here’s an outfit that I’d wear on a typical day at work:

A look at the individual pieces:

Your Fireside of the Story Cardigan in Navy {Modcloth}

I chose this cardigan because, well, cardigan. And who doesn’t love a cozy cable knit cardigan? Especially when you’re working in a cold library. I also like the patch pockets and the big ol’ buttons. The deep rich navy color is just one of those shades that’ll go with any and everything.

During the rare times when I wear graphic tees to work, I like for them to be library related. I think it adds a bit of humor to my day and gives me the opportunity to highlight some library kitsch. I also find that “V” neck tees are particularly flattering on me. For the sake of modesty, I’d add a cardigan in a contrasting color

Because I’m “fluffy” in the middle and the hips, I prefer fuller skirts. You know, nothing that’s gonna grab or hug… I also like to balance out the top — everything above the waist is fitted so below the waist has to be a bit lose and flowy. I also think the bright green is a nice contrast to the neutral gray of the tee and the tights. And, seriously, how fab do green and navy look together?

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: I LOVE TIGHTS. They can be patterned or solid, thick or thin, cabled or not. I just love them. I think they add a nice layer of warmth and they can either pop or ground an outfit. In this case, I’m using the gray to ground the outfit.

Cause for Collaboration Heel in Burgundy {Modcloth}

And now for the wild card: the shoes! Are these not the most fabulous looking oxfords ever? I like that the heel is high enough to give me a little lift but sensible enough for all day wear. The burgundy color is also fifteen shades of wonderful and all kinds of fun.
