One Dress Two Ways {Living Outside the Stacks}

Truth be told, I have a love-hate relationship with this dress. I absolutely adore it because The Hubs picked it out for me. And if you’ve ever met him, you’ll know that he’s a strict black, white, and khaki kinda guy, so picking out a navy dress with multicolored horses on it? Just beyond! But I also hate it because part of me feels like I’m way too old to wear novelty prints. I’m 42! Especially novelty prints on a short{er} dress.

But then there’s the rebel in me that screams: “WEAR IT AND WEAR IT PROUDLY!” So that’s what I choose to do.

For Spring

Spring in these parts can be iffy. For example, we had temps in the mid 70’s on Monday and today it’s a chilly 40something, so cardigans are a must. And as soon as February ends, the library turns on the AC but don’t get me started on that. While I could have chosen a complimentary colored cardi, black is always a favorite of mine. It’s longer in length and it acts as a nice contrast to the deep navy.

I also think the tights help to extend the length just enough that I won’t cause a scandal and the shooties {don’t you love that word?} keep me from looking like I’m trying too hard. I grew up in the age of “the higher the hem, the lower the heel.” And I still abide by that rule. A girl can’t break every rule!

For Summer

Ahhhhh… warmth. Sun. Bare legs. This version is definitely much more playful and just a tad bit sexier, without being too much. Again, you’ll notice I added a cardi, this time in a soft pink. And the shoes are just bold. They don’t match the dress at all, but they “go with”, which is a style I happen to prefer.

How do you transition your clothes from Spring to Summer? What’s your favorite style season?
