Welcome to another week of Style Imitating Art, where we draw our style inspiration from works of art. This week’s selection was curated by yours truly. This week’s images were taken in our RV, so they’re kinda funky and things are clipped in odd places, but ya work with what you have, right?
Anyway, The Hubs and I are in Louisiana now and we’re still trying to get our bearings. Squeekerz is ignoring us full stop. He won’t even come out of his kennel unless he’s bribed with bacon treats and even that doesn’t work all the time. He’s so over this move. As are we. The good news is that we’ll have a home effective 1 July, so yay for some sense of normalcy. I don’t think I’m really as nomadic as I like to think I am…
STYLE IMITATING ART INSPIRATION
18th Century Spanish Textile {The image is from the Metropolitan Museum of Art Open Access Collection}
- It’s summer and the flowers are so pretty
- I think I can find something between the clothes in my car and the ones in the RV
You can read more about the textile here.
MY LOOK
I chose this dress because I thought the floral print in the dress mimicked the florals in the textile fragment. The colors are also similar – bits of bluish gray, peach, brown, black, and green. I brought in the yellow with my sandals.
I usually wear this dress as a tunic over jeans, for some reason, I thought it was too short for me to wear as a dress. Hmmm… It really isn’t any shorter than some of my skirts, so I don’t know what I was thinking. It’s safe to say, I definitely like it better as a dress. Especially with the mustard sandals.
I bought the sandals because I thought the mustard color would work as a great neutral. Definitely one of my best shoe purchases. I’ve been wearing them with everything. Which is my way of saying that you’ll be seeing more of these shoes this summer…

MY COHOSTS
Jen from Librarian for Life & Style chose to wear her orange floral dress — which I absolutely love because it’s so bright and cheerful {it just makes me happy looking at it!}. Her hat is vintage and she “…thought the ribbon’s edging echoed the inspiration textile well, as did my cloisonné earrings.” And y’all know the sandals have me swooning! Raise your hand if you’re a shoe girl! You can get the full details of Jen’s outfit by clicking here.
Salazar from 14 Shades of Grey is wearing a beautiful floral top with white pants — is there nothing more fresh and fun than white with a burst of color? Salazar chose this outfit because she wanted to keep “… everything simple, but I tried to include some details as a nod to the embroidery, such as my green heels, which are to mimic the green scroll at the bottom of the piece.” Can we throw heart eyes at her shoes? Yes, please! Simply cuuuuute! You can find out the details of Salazar’s outfit by clicking here.
Be sure to check out their blogs and come back here on Wednesday for a full roundup of the participants.
