Style Imitating Art {Round Up}: Sky above Clouds IV by Georgia O’Keefe

As the blogger and photographer behind Living Outside the Stacks, I independently select and write about stuff I love and things I think you’ll enjoy too. Living Outside the Stacks has affiliate and advertising partnerships so I get revenue from sharing this content and from your purchase. Thank you for your support.

Welcome to Style Imitating Art.

Style Imitating Art is hosted by Salazar {14 Shades of Grey}, Terri {Meadow Tree Style}, and me. Style Imitating Art challenges us to draw style inspiration from pieces of art. Every other Monday one of us selects an inspiration image and we each post the image on our blogs. The following Monday we share our art inspired outfits. Participants submit their art inspired outfits with the curator by 10 PM Tuesday and, that Wednesday, the curator shares all of the submissions on her blog.

This week’s image was selected by me.

Sky above Clouds IV. Georgia O’Keefe. 1965.

Leslie {jodie’s touch of style}

So, here’s the thing about drawing inspiration from something: IT DOESN’T HAVE TO BE AN EXACT MATCH. If you notice, I almost never do an exact anything. I use the colors or pattern as a starting point and that’s exactly what Leslie has done. The circle shape of her skirt and the circles on her skirt are reminiscent of the circular cloud shapes in the sky. And, of course, there is the color – white. Just perfect!!

Michelle {my bijou life}

Michelle’s outfit is another that is not an exact match, but is inspired by… Check out the dark blue and the circle and floral white pattern on her top. So much fun. And look at those sweet little slippers.

Shelbee {shelbee on the edge}

Shelbee’s outfit just screams fun, from the crochet beanie to the funky boots. There’s so much to love here. I also like that Shelbee’s outfit comes close to mimicking the inspiration image but is also very inspired by.

Suzy {the grey brunette}

I’ve always said that Suzy is my style sister. Her top and her cork sandals are my dream. Seriously fabulous! Love the color and shape of her purse too.

Reni {reni’s odds and sods}

How fun is Reni’s outfit? I’m always looking for tee shirt and skirt inspiration and I do believe I just found it. There’s just something about the side knot and the sneakers that make my heart sing.

Salazar {14 shades of grey}

I don’t think I’ve ever seen Salazar in jeans before… These are super cute. I like the cropped length with the fuller leg. And paired with those adorable pink loafers? Yes! The summery button down is simply sweet.

Terri {meadow tree style}

And look, another pair of cropped pants! I like the wide hem on Terri’s pants. And that shade of blue is just perfect for the painting. I love a white jean. There’s just something so fresh about the look.

Send a picture of your Style Imitating Art inspired outfit to me at by Tuesday, 4 May and I’ll share the submissions on my blog on Wednesday, 5 May.

You don’t have to have a blog to join, you can share your images on Instagram as well! Just tag Salazar, Terri, and me or use the hashtags #TeamLOTSStyle and #StyleImitatingArt so we know you’re there. We’d love to see how you interpret the inspiration piece.
