ABOUT STYLE IMITATING ART

Style Imitating Art is hosted by Salazar {14 Shades of Gray}, Kim {Fierce Fashion Blog}, and me. Style Imitating Art challenges us to draw style inspiration from pieces of art. Every other Monday one of us selects an inspiration image and we each post the image on our blogs. The following Monday we share our art inspired outfit. My main tip for participating is not to just look at the colors but look at the textures, think about complimentary colors, etc. In other words, you don’t have to be literal in your interpretation. It’s all about looking at the items in your closet in new and creative ways — mixing colors and patterns and just having fun.

THE CURATOR

This week’s inspiration piece was curated by me. Living Outside the Stacks is all about my life away from the library.

INSPIRATION ART WORK

Pocket, ca. 1784

Pocket, ca. 1784

I chose this pocket as our inspiration piece for two reasons:

  • the pretty flowers
  • POCKETS ARE LIFE

Did you know that back in the day, pockets weren’t part of women’s clothing, but were a totally separate accessory? And judging by the teeny tiny or nonexistent pockets that still we still find on some women’s clothing, I’m gonna say we may need to go back to making them as fashion accessories. Seriously, isn’t this one just beautiful? Anyway, you can read more about this particular pocket here. Can you believe this may have been created by an untrained embroiderer? Wow.

The colors in this pocket are so vibrant and happy.

What will you wear? I can’t wait to see.

Don’t you just love the embroidery on Salazar’s top? It’s so pretty. It kind of looks like it was hand embroidered, right? Make sure you stop by her blog to see how else she plans to style this top.

Kim {Fierce Fashion Blog}

The flowers!! And can I tell you a little secret about this top? Kim altered it herself – pop by her blog to see what she did. I am so impressed.

This dress is sooooo pretty. Nancy has such a classic style with, dare I say, a little bit of edge? I mean, look at that hint of a red shoe! Stunning.

Mike

Mike is wearing a fun tee that appeals to my competitive edge. See all the badges on the back? You can earn one for hiking. Y’all, my Fitbit and I would be all over the place. I also like that Mike gave a nod to the pocket with his library tote.

MY LOOK
