ABOUT STYLE IMITATING ART

Style Imitating Art is hosted by Salazar {14 Shades of Grey}, Kim {Fierce Fashion Blog}, and me. Style Imitating Art challenges us to draw style inspiration from pieces of art. Every other Monday one of us selects an inspiration image and we each post the image on our blogs. The following Monday we share our art inspired outfits. And that Wednesday, the curator shares all of the submissions on her blog.

THE CURATOR

This week’s image was chosen by me.

INSPIRATION ART WORK

Teapot {Metropolitan Museum of Art Open Access}

I chose this teapot because I like the colors and I’ve developed an interest in tea and teapots. Not giving up my coffee but I love the prettiness and ceremony that is attached to tea.

STYLING IDEAS

The colors. Y’all. The colors. Look at them. Doesn’t this just scream Spring/Summer? I know it doesn’t feel like it because of does Kermit arms all of this, but we can still bring a little happy to our lives. All of you with the fun kimonos, this is your time to shine! Can’t you just see this outfit as a kimono, graphic tee, jeans, and sandals? Maybe a little something like this.

Bev {Confuzzledom}

Confuzzled Bev

Bev thought her dress was “…a bit of a stretch!” But I don’t think so at all. The colors, the flowers, everything is just perfect.

Kezzie {KezzieAG}

Style Imitating Art teapot {Kezzie}
Kezzie always adds a bit of whimsy to Style Imitating Art with her dresses. And, gosh, I’m glad she showed a detail of that bar necklace – it’s stunning!

And here’s Kezzie’s second submission… Such a sweet dress, don’t you think? And that bar necklace! *sigh* Love it!

Mike {Postcard Purposes}

Mike 2 {postcards}

Mike wrote that he “…thought quite a bit about this one and finally decided on my striped sweater, as I noticed the various bands that decorate the teapot and I wanted to emulate that in my outfit. Color-wise, it doesn’t really match the colors of the teapot. But I wore my light blue shirt under my sweater to mimic the light blue that’s seen on the pot. And you can see that with my shirt collar.”

Great job, Mike! Even the coloring of the sweater makes me think about the teapot.

THE CO-HOSTS

Make sure you stop by and visit my co-hosts at 14 Shades of Grey, and Fierce Fashion Blog. You’ll definitely want to see their interpretations as well. Make sure you come back on Wednesday to see my co-hosts’ outfits.

Salazar {14 Shades of Grey}

 Salazar {14 shades of grey}

Salazar wrote that she “…chose this dress because the color and the delicate embroideries on the top remind me of the light blue part of the teapot, and I accessorized it with a braided belt (to mimic the handle of the pot) and a bird brooch (to mimic the gold bits and the bird design.) It’s not as close to the inspiration as I would’ve liked, but I’m happy with it.” I think it’s perfect. And, seriously, have you ever met anyone with a better brooch collection than Salazar?

Kim {Fierce Fashion Blog}

Kim chose this outfit because  “The aqua blue half of the teapot inspired this outfit.  The white jeans were added because of the white clouds in the design.” Those sandals are pretty cute too. I think the raffia reminds me of the gold on the teapot.
