ABOUT STYLE IMITATING ART
Style Imitating Art is hosted by Salazar {14 Shades of Grey}, Kim {Fierce Fashion Blog}, and me. Style Imitating Art challenges us to draw style inspiration from pieces of art. Every other Monday one of us selects an inspiration image and we each post the image on our blogs. The following Monday we share our art inspired outfits. And that Wednesday, the curator shares all of the submissions on her blog.
THE CURATOR
This week’s image was chosen by me.
INSPIRATION ART WORK
I chose this teapot because I like the colors and I’ve developed an interest in tea and teapots. Not giving up my coffee but I love the prettiness and ceremony that is attached to tea.
STYLING IDEAS
The colors. Y’all. The colors. Look at them. Doesn’t this just scream Spring/Summer? I know it doesn’t feel like it because of does Kermit arms all of this, but we can still bring a little happy to our lives. All of you with the fun kimonos, this is your time to shine! Can’t you just see this outfit as a kimono, graphic tee, jeans, and sandals? Maybe a little something like this.
MY OUTFIT
I learned something this week: DO NOT BREAK YOUR GLASSES DURING A PANDEMIC. I’m now switching between old pairs until a new pair that I had to order online arrive… I’m hoping they fit properly because I had to play the guessing game. *sigh*
When I decided to use the teapot for the inspiration piece, I immediately knew I was going to showcase this kimono. I bought it many moons ago when kimonos first became all the rage. Then it sat in my closet for a year. After I brought it home, I wasn’t sure how to wear it.
I’ve always seen kimonos worn with graphic tees and loved the look. It has a kind of edgy, but boho look, if you know what I mean. And, although, I have a wide collection of graphic tees, I decided to go with a solid white tee for this wearing.
I don’t know about you, but I’ve had the hardest time finding a basic white tee. My complaints ranged from too thin to too clingy to too blah. Out of desperation, I ended up buying a 4 pack of men’s V neck tees from Hane’s and, y’all, I wish I’d done this a long time ago. While the body is a little long, the weight is perfect. I’m comfortable enough to not wear a cami. I wear a cami under just about everything, so this is a big deal.
Next time I wear this outfit – and there will be a next time – be prepared for a graphic tee and all the accessories. LOL
