ABOUT STYLE IMITATING ART
Style Imitating Art is hosted by Salazar {14 Shades of Gray}, Kim {Fierce Fashion Blog}, and me. Style Imitating Art challenges us to draw style inspiration from pieces of art. Every other Monday one of us selects an inspiration image and we each post the image on our blogs. The following Monday we share our art inspired outfit. My main tip for participating is not to just look at the colors but look at the textures, think about complimentary colors, etc. In other words, you don’t have to be literal in your interpretation. It’s all about looking at the items in your closet in new and creative ways — mixing colors and patterns and just having fun.
THE CURATOR
This week’s inspiration piece was curated by me. Living Outside the Stacks is all about life away from the library.
INSPIRATION ART WORK
GREGORY, JAMES J.H., & SONS. 1896. CATALOGUE OF HOME GROWN SEEDS no. 1896, 1897, 1898 (DAMAGED), 1899, 1900, MARBLEHEAD MA. {from The Smithsonian Libraries, no copyright}
I chose this image because I’m hoping all the rain we’ve had this weekend will bring some pretty blooms in the coming weeks. I also like the soft pastel colors in the image, which are so not me, but I’m willing to work outside of my sartorial comfort zone. I see shades of blue, pink, brown, and cream. As always, you don’t have to be literal with your interpretation – maybe try a contrasting color or a floral pattern. You can even wear a graphic tee. There really are a lot of options.
What do you think you’ll wear? I can’t wait to see.
MY LOOK
If you look closely, you can tell that I’m wearing a different black tee in some of the photos. I’ve also changed my shoes. In my head, the solid black tee fit my outfit perfectly, but when I saw the pictures I was incredibly disappointed.
The solid black tee just didn’t fit what I had in mind…
So I switched into this graphic tee and everything just felt {and looked} better.
And this kimono {it’s actually listed as a duster} just screamed seed packet! I mean, look at it! Doesn’t it remind you of the design on the packet?
I absolutely adore this tee. It’s from a faith based company called Free Citizen and, gosh, I just love the message. Especially since yesterday was Resurrection Sunday – the day we celebrate the resurrection of my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. I’ve worn a similar tee by Free Citizen here.
I’ve worn my boyfriend jeans before, you can see them here. They’re super comfortable – I’ve worn them on a road trip from Louisiana to Texas and back with no issues. I’m wearing the vintage wash; they come in a medium and light wash as well.
