ABOUT STYLE IMITATING ART
Style Imitating Art is hosted by Salazar {14 Shades of Gray}, Kim {Fierce Fashion Blog}, and me. Style Imitating Art challenges us to draw style inspiration from pieces of art. Every other Monday one of us selects an inspiration image and we each post the image on our blogs. The following Monday we share our art inspired outfit. My main tip for participating is not to just look at the colors but look at the textures, think about complimentary colors, etc. In other words, you don’t have to be literal in your interpretation. It’s all about looking at the items in your closet in new and creative ways — mixing colors and patterns and just having fun.
THE CURATOR
This week’s image was chosen by Salazar from 14 Shades of Gray.

For this week’s option, Salazar gave us the choice of 10 images. I chose this one. Some of the options were more colorful, but I couldn’t find anything in my closet to fit so… Isn’t this image fun? I’m still not sure what I’m gonna wear, but I’m certainly going to have fun figuring it out.
MY OUTFIT
I know, I know… It’s been a minute since I updated the blog. Life, y’all. That’s pretty much all I can say…
So, let’s talk about this outfit. Isn’t it funky? Lately, I’ve been all about the Mori Girl look – you know, lots of lace, knit fabrics, boots, and tights. While it doesn’t really lend itself to the colors in the inspiration piece, I thought the lace skirting made me feel a little ballerina-esque.
To bring in the bold colors from the inspiration piece, I decided to play with my makeup. At the urging of my sister, I decided to sign up for BoxyCharm and, y’all, I’ve been impressed with both boxes. The shadow colors have been spot on…
Don’t you just love the lace and sequins on this top? So much fun. If you look closely, you can see that the collar is asymmetrical.
This dress is actually two pieces: the sheer overlay and the lace tank underneath. This extends the wear of the dress, as the sheer overlay can be layered over other pieces and the lace tank can be used as an extender under my other tunics. And, even though I’m wearing this as a dress, I could easily wear it as a tunic with a pair of jeans or faux leather leggings.
