Throwback Thursday: Remember the Sabbath {In the Church}
Originally posted: 30 November 2011 Rush rush rush, it always seems like I’m in a hurry to catch up on stuff. That’s my life, 24/7. Whoa, wait! Did I just say 24/7? Yes, I did. And that’s a problem. The Lord tells us in Exodus 20:10 that the seventh day is the Lord’s day and on that day we nor anyone in our households are to do any work, that day is to be reserved for rest and worship, not for catching up on laundry or balancing the check book or whatever we come up with to do on that day. We are to observe the Sabbath by keeping it holy…

Coffee Talk {In the Cafe}
Hi, and welcome to Coffee Talk. In case you’re new here, this is where I share some of the great and not~so~great stuff that I find on the web. Topics range from news stories that leave me scratchin’ my head to DIYs that I think are absolutely clever. And there may be a recipe thrown in here or there just for fun. “You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.” Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride This has become my standard response whenever I hear or read someone use the word “blessed” in a tweet or Facebook status e.g.“We were blessed today, #Scandal…

Coffee Talk {In the Cafe}
1. Last week, a federal judge in Brooklyn, New York ordered that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration make the morning after pill available without a prescription to women of all ages. This includes girls under the age of 17. I’m not going to get into the discussion over whether abortion should be legal or not because this isn’t about abortion, this is about preventing a pregnancy before it occurs. However, I will get into the discussion over whether or not children under the age of 17 should be allowed to get medication, any medication, without a prescription or parental knowledge. You can read the story here. There is something fundamentally…

He is Risen {In the Church}
Happy Resurrection Sunday! Today I’m happy to proclaim that my redeemer lives. And because He lives, I have the gift of eternal life. This gift can be yours too. To receive it, all you have to do is confess with your mouth and believe with your heart that Jesus is Lord, then you are saved {Romans 10:9~10}.

No Greater Love {In the Church}
The hubs likes to say “love is not a feeling, it’s an action”; it demands the individual to do something that requires sacrifice on his or her part. Jesus set the example for love when he gave his life for us way back on calvary. John 15:13 says: “Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friend.” Even in our sinful state, Jesus loved us enough to call us “friend” and take the punishment for our sins. And this was not just any death, this was a most brutal death. He was whipped, spit upon, beat up, battered, bloodied and then nailed to a…

The Turning Point {In the Church}
When I was about 8 or 9 years old, my family and I walked through the doors of Progressive Church of God in Christ in Colorado; at the end of the service, a group of kids walked up to us and introduced themselves. They were led by a young lady who would become my dearest friend and sister for life, Kim. For the years that my dad was stationed in Colorado, our lives were so intertwined with Kim’s that I hardly have a memory of those years without her being there. After we moved to Italy, we kept in touch for a while, but like with almost all childhood relationships…

My God is an Awesome God {In the Church}
When I was a teenager, my favorite adjective for anything I found good, fun, or positive was “awesome”. In fact, I used the word so often that it started to lose its meaning. You know how it is when you eat or drink something so much that it ceases to hold the value it once held? Well, that’s what happened to the word “awesome”. So I found other ways to express my joy and, gradually, the word slipped from my vocabulary and was replaced by other descriptors like “that’s great” or “wonderful”. That is, until I started connecting with people online, then it became easy to type a simple “awesome”…

The Greatest Valentine’s Day Gift {In the Church}
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” John 3:16 {KJV} Happy Valentine’s Day, my prayer is that you will accept this most precious gift…

Seeing His Word Clearly {In the Church}
When I was about seven years old, my mom took me to have my vision tested. My teachers had noticed that I was squinting a lot and having a difficult time reading the chalk board. Up until that point, I didn’t realize that I couldn’t see. I seriously thought my issues were due to white chalk on a not~so~clean blackboard. It wasn’t until the doctor started playing with the lenses and asking me to pick which one was clearer that I realized how little of the world I was seeing. Once he settled on a prescription, the doctor ordered my glasses and told us to come back to pick them…
